importing an OMF Fails

This is what I get:

CNSExceptionWrapper
type = 16777216, error = 1886547263, message = error: Failed to open or create audio file for writing.

the OMF file imports OK into Logic but not the latest version of Soundtrack. I thought ST was meant to be able to import OMF files. wasn't this app designed to be part of the FCP suite of apps and it's job was to give users a better and more details program to post audio with?

Can anyone pleasev suggest why to OMF will not work!

MacPro 2.8Ghz Quad core, Mac OS X (10.5.6), 2.8Ghz MP, 8TB RAID 5, EX1 & HDV deck, FC Studio 3, CS4

The obvious answer is that there something wrong with the OMF file-- it says there's something wrong with the wrapper. You might want to check the frequency and/or bit depth.

From the Manual:

Working with OMF Files
The OMF (Open Media Framework, also known as OMFI—Open Media Framework Interchange) file format is typically used to exchange data with Digidesign Pro Tools software. The OMF format only supports the exchange of audio data (audio media and the use of this audio media in a project)—MIDI and automation data is ignored when using the export functions.

Exporting OMF Files
To export the current project as an OMF file, choose File > Export > Project as OMF File (or use the Export Project as OMF File key command).

Choose the required options in the dialog that opens:

OMF File Version: You can choose to export the file in OMF Version 1 or Version 2 format. You will usually choose Version 2. Version 1 is only useful for backward compatibility with older software versions.
Include audio: Turn this on to integrate all exported audio files into the OMF file itself. This can result in a very large file, and can make file export times lengthy. Deselect this checkbox to only write file references to the OMF file.
Note: If the latter option is chosen and you want to copy the OMF file to another hard disk, you need to ensure that all referenced audio files are also copied.

Convert interleaved to split stereo: As some applications don’t support interleaved stereo files, Logic Pro can convert interleaved stereo files to split stereo (when exporting an OMF file for a Pro Tools session, for example). Select this checkbox if this is the desired behavior.
Note: This only works if the “Include audio” option is turned on.

Convert 24 bit files to 16 bit: Select this option to convert all 24-bit files to 16 bit, using the chosen dithering type. This might be necessary when using older versions of Pro Tools.
Dither Type: Choose None or any of the four dither algorithms (see Bouncing and Dithering).
Importing and Opening OMF Files
The following procedure is identical for both importing and opening OMF files. Importing a file copies the OMF data into the current project, whereas opening an OMF file creates a new project.

To import or open an OMF file
Do one of the following:

Choose File > Import (or use the corresponding key command, default assignment: Command-I).

Choose File > Open (or use the corresponding key command, default assignment: Command-O).

Locate the OMF file in the Browser, then click the Open button.

Choose an OMF file from the dialog.

Tip: If you choose the OMF files option in the File Type pop-up menu, only files with the “.TL” extension are shown.

After choosing and confirming the file import, another dialog allows you to define the target location for audio data extracted from the OMF file.

Choose an existing folder (this defaults to the open project folder), or create a new one.

The OMF file is imported into the currently open project. New audio tracks are generated for every track contained in the OMF file, and the audio parts are placed appropriately on these tracks (as regions).

He was working on final cut studio 2 just like my system.. I also tried exporting a new omf from my fcp and still can't import into soundtrack pro.. Same error.. This is really a problem since I am on a schedule... I can't even touch audio.. I can't use any workarounds either.. Ther only way to edit this audio is through omf.. I need to get this file opened..

"There only way?" (sic) Who is the implied They? Aren't you doing the audio edit, or is someone else?
If you have all the media, the same as the online editor, then a STP file could be used. The only thing will be to link all the media when it's opened. It's a tad bit of a chore if they're not in the same directories, but it should work. You send back the mix as a Stereo or Surround AIFF file.

Well it is a long story I was hoping i didn't have to post but since you are asking.. here it is.. I did my online edit in NY and I live in LA. So i onlined or whatever you wanna call i,t my final cut of the film from DV to digibeta... My editor exported a omf of the final cut from the DV after we made few final changes..He gave me the omf, and the final digibeta .mov which has all audio fused since I was gonna do the audio in STP through my omf... I do not have a final cut of the film with audio that can be edited, since we made those changes in NYC.... I tired exporting a new omf of an old cut just to see if it was gonna work and it didn't... If this all sounds confusing i apologize but trust me i can't get my hands on a audio track that is not fused useless it is in a omf format.

Here ism y way around this **** problem.

1 Import into Logic, save audio files to a folder or the desktop

2 If you get a popup asking if you want to convert it to logics sample rate click no

3 Listen to the audio, if the pitch is wrong look at the project sample rate in the project settings menu.

4 From the file menu Export to an AFF file, keep the sample rate and bit depth the same as the project then export to another temporary folder on the desktop

5 Open soundtrack pro and select import aff from the file menu.

6 it will pop up complaining about missing files, just navigate to the audio folder that was created when you exported the AFF.

Thats you done!

This works most of the time, but right now im struggling with one that stalls when i get to the soundtrack stage, no idea whats wrong, any ideas?

I am geting the exact same error!

CNSExceptionWrapper
type = 16777216, error = 1886547263, message = error: Failed to open or create audio file for writing.

the OMF file imports OK into Logic but not the latest version of Soundtrack

I am about to try the workaround and create an AAF in logic then import into STP3....

But why is this happening, I don't feel the file is corrupt because logic handles it fine & usually logic has more issues with OMF files than STP does!

I have reset deleted all my pref & cache files & reset my scratch & edited media disk.

HERE are the details:
OMF file exported from FCP 6 - 16bit / 48k - Size 1.29GB
Soundtrack Pro 3.0.1
OS X 10.6.4
iMac 2.8 Ghz Intel Core i7 - 8GB ram
