AT&T credit card issue with address - iPad

Have been trying to sign up for data plan with AT&T, put in my credit address info and get a rejected address! Read on another forum that ATT rejects credit cards for any address outside their service. This is crazy, I want the plan to use in travel. Why has not Apple addressed with this issue with ATT?

Anyone having the same problem? Do you know a fix? WHy has I purchased this iPad if I can not get data service!

Just spent an hour talking to AT&T, hopeless. They said they are not able to process a data plan that does not have a credit card with a street address. I told them I checked with my bank and even went online to verify the address. All they keep saying was I must have a street address for the credit card. I do. Finally, they said they know of this problem and do not have an answer. They said I should take my 3g, 64, back to Apple and trade it for the wireless iPad. (I already have a wireless for my wife, I wanted the 3G for travel.

What a joke AT&T is.

I doubt this is AT&T's issue. They need to have security, and if they cannot match an address to the credit card number, how is this AT&T's fault? Ever consider that your bank might be at fault? Did you recently change your address? Did you put it in accurately? Is your bank putting a security hold on your account (mine did, right after purchasing the iPad, because I bought it outside of my usual area of purchases)?

Disparaging AT&T may make you feel better, but it doesn't correct the issue.

Here is a post from AT&T:

I could not activate IPad 3g access with AT&T because our physical address is outside of the 3g coverage area. It is the same address on our AT&T account for three of our cell phones (two of which are Iphones). I don't need 3G access at our physical address. This is a mobile device. Who at AT&T came up with this brilliant idea? Ridiculous.

The only error I got when trying to register was to correct my billing address. I had tried two different credit cards from two different banks, both with physical billing addresses. I confirmed with the banks that the billing addresses were correct.

Got the runaround from AT&T - Apple finally confirmed that this was the issue and the technician there was very helpful - gave me his direct phone and email address. The AT&T support person escalated my problem & said I should hear back from someone within 72 hours but was unable to give me a way to reach her again and wasn't able to even provide a ticket or reference number.

I activated using a friends credit card - but this is absurd.. It took me four hours on the phone & several bounces back and forth between Apple and AT&T before they confirmed that I would not be able to register an AT&T plan with my credit card because my billing address (physical address) was outside the 3G coverage area.

This is not something that will be "fixed". It is noted in the Apple support documents;

Payment & Billing Information
Complete this section with the billing information you’d like to use to pay for your Cellular Data account.
Note: You cannot use a P.O. Box for the billing address. AT&T requires that you use a street address for the credit-card billing address. Please see this document from AT&T for more information.

Here's a fix that worked for me (**note: my credit card billing addresses are all to a PO Box **).

I live in a remote area but strangely there is a 3G network. AT&T does not recognize my zip code even for a physical address. So, I went on the website for my credit card and changed my billing address to the address of the company I work for, which happens to be in another state and more importantly at a zip code that AT&T thinks is better than the one where I live. After punching the new address into my iPad, the frustration level finally started to ease and what I've been trying to do since yesterday morning finally worked - I have a data plan.

After reading several post here is wait I did for SOLUTION:

I entered all my information, credit card number etc., but for the address I put in my Post Office address and zip. I had to do this two times but then it processed. I am now on a data plan.

Make sure that in your "settings" the "APN" is blank and "cellular data is" ON and "data roaming" is ON, you can change after a successful sign up. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Took iPad to At&t store. After a sales rep listened to my address problem, she got the manager. The manager tried see the problem, he then call AT&T came back and looked at iPad again re-booted and still no address solution. I ask if other iPad owners have stopped in the store with this problem, he said " up until today we had none, but today I was the fourth." One customer tried to use 5 different credit cards all with the "Street" address - did not work. I could see the manager was frustrated. He went in the back room and called his AT&T office, came out and said there was a problem I they were trying to fix it, said Apple and AT&T were going back and forth on who was at fault. I said I would wait a day and see what happens. Just as I was about to leave another customer was directed to the manager and pulled out his iPad. I said to the manager "here is number five for the day.
