Dent in MacBook Pro

Hi,

I had my MacBook Pro 13" (Unibody, Summer 2009) stored in a locker some time ago. It was in a case, albeit one not made specifically for MacBooks, and (while in the case) fell out of the locker, receiving a small dent on the right side of the machine. The dent is about 2 and a half inches from the Kensington Lock Slot, and about an eighth to a quarter of an inch in. Will this damage the machine in the future? I have not had any problems with the system running slowly, and I am still able to perform all the necessary functions I need to with the Mac, but in terms of the long run, will it have a lasting effect on performance or otherwise? I am going to purchase a Speck Products snap on shell case for future protection.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13", Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Maybe. The machines are very exact when it comes to keeping themselves cool. The fact you've had no trouble is a good sign, however, it may change in the future. Don't put it through any more stress.

The snap cases offer modest protection. But the best protection is an active mind, and one wary of snags, wires, and doorjams. Shutting down the machine offers it a bit more protection if you do that before you transport it. Never hold it with one hand while moving, as that's asking for an accident to happen.

No the warranty does not cover damage caused in accidents. When you get a moment read the warranty FAQ and do a search for the word "damage." It spells out user damage is not covered by the warranty.

However there are some credit cards that do cover accidental damage, if you purchased the MBP using a credit card I would recommend reading over that card's Terms and Conditions including services that that your credit card covers...you might get lucky.

This is why I always buy my computers from worst buy.... even though they are an evil corporation you can always get Accidental Damage and handling protection.... if your computer is involved in an accident and is damaged beyond repair they will exchange it... no questions asked!
I did not believe it until I had to use it... About two months ago I fell down my school stairs over my macbook air (I was carrying it on my msgr bag) and it was completely destroyed...
Next thing I know is that best buy is refunding the price of the computer (less the warranty of course) and this made me jump into the 15" wagon...
so long story short... get best buys warranty.... you cant go wrong with it!
