Installation problem, 9.0 installer hangs after entering serial number

I'm unable to install my new Logic Studio 9 upgrade. The installer is hanging after entering the seriel number (spinning color wheel overnight).

Anybody else seen this?

Any solution to this problem?

Same issue here. Everything would work fine on an other Mac (just tested - not installed!) and on this very Mac booted with an older OS (but that also was for testing only and is unfortunately no solution).

But with 10.6.4 and with the LS upgrade the installation freezes after entering my (legal of course) LS8 serial and pressing return. I tried everything...

after entering serial number the installer hangs

For Logic 9, the serialization information is stored in this file:

Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/ProApps/ProAppsSystemID

I would move that file to the desktop and try again.

If that didn't work, I would try a new OS X user account.

If that didn't work, I would reinstall the OS. You can do this over the current OS without erasing any of your other items, so it's pretty painless.

If that didn't work, I would install a fresh OS and Logic on an external drive and see if that works.

Hey - moving the Logic Studio System ID (I also moved the ProAppsSystem ID too) to the desktop and kicked the installer back into life.
Interestingly, as a result of moving these files, I wasn't prompted for my serial number - which I kept being asked for when the installer hung.

Regardless, it's now installing so thanks a million...

That former file is for L8. The latter is for L9. I think the L9 installer installs both, probably in order to make life easier for people who want to run both versions. But if you're just running L9, all that you really need is the ProAppsSystemID file. Although maybe that other file was damaged and somehow hanging up the installer, so moving it might have helped.

That is interesting. It's surprising and quirky, but obviously nothing to worry about.

Anyway, I'm glad it's OK now, and thanks for letting us know.

Will these files be reinstalled by Logic or are they in the end unnecessary?

They are definitely necessary. L8 needs this file: Logic Studio System ID. L9 needs this file: ProAppsSystemID.

Moving just one file has no effect. But moving both files was successfull.

That's interesting, thanks for mentioning that. I suppose what's happening is something like this: the Logic 9 installer wants to create both files (even though the L8 file has no relevance except for the small number of users who want to continue to use L8 sometimes even though they are installing L9). Then somehow a problem arises where one or both files becomes damaged, while the Logic installer is trying to write it. So the installer gives up. And it's so sensitive that just one of these files being damaged is enough to make it give up entirely. It shouldn't be so fragile, but it is.

So then to fix the situation you have to get rid of both files. Then the installer can try again.

These files can be created by either the Logic installer or by the Logic app itself. If you launch Logic and the file is not present, you will be prompted to enter your serial, and then Logic will create the file. And as long as the file remains there, Logic won't nag you again.
