Can I set it up so that it connects to an iPhone?

Hi there,

it has been suggested that this could be a solution... I want to be able to swap (word) files WITHOUT using internet between the macbook and an iPhone (the most expensive piece of junk to date, IMHO) which does NOT allow bluetooth connection (%$&£$%%!!!!). Someone has suggested I could do something with the macBook. Does anybody know???

I will be away and without internet (except for the iPhone) but I will need to work on some files to be subsequently e-mailed and to do it on the iPhone is way too cumbersome.

Any ideas?

Hi

I don't quite understand how you plan to use the Word files on the iPhone (you can't run Office on a cellphone), but you can use DiskAid to transfer files to/from a Mac using the USB connection.

Hi Matt,

in theory I could edit word files on an iPhone using quickOffice, but it would be too cumbersome.

Thanks for the link, but it says that they have gone as far as 10.5.1, while I am using 10.6.3... Worth a try anyway.

How about setting up an ad-hoc wireless network from the Macbook (no internet service needed), and using FileApp (from iPhone App Store) to transfer / browse files? You then use any FTP client (eg, the free Cyberduck) on the Mac to FTP files to/from the phone. Instructions are included with FileApp.

Worked for me under 10.6.4.

However I keep wondering... why is it not easier??? I can't be the only one trying to do it...

UPDATE...

Added bonus, I can try the app before I buy it.
I wonder though why it gets such a bad press... 3 stars in the demo version and 2,5 for the pro.

Hi Matt,

I thought I was home and dry, but perhaps not...
I have managed to download something onto the iPhone, but not the opposite.
I need to upload on the computer files received via e-mail on the iPhone, but I am not clear where they are supposed to be (probably nowhere...).

Am I making any sense? I have emailed technical support. Let's what they come up with.

I believe that what you're after isn't possible without jailbreaking - unfortunately, we can't discuss that here.
