Red Light inside Xserve - Normal?

Just curious if it is normal to see a red glow inside the Xserve. I know that a G5 will turn on a red light if the case isn't fully closed. Just making sure...

My Server just won,t start but sometimes when i push the PMU button it starts working..
but now i don,t seem to get the Xserve to start but stays on and fans after 5mins start to go fast and hear a lot of fan speeding noise.

When i see my Xserve power up,on the inside with the cover off the case i see three red lights ?
1st red light :dimm pwr on...2nd red light :DS6 in the middle of logic board and 3rd red light next to the PMU button :DS3 is this Right?

as i'am still quite new to the Xserve i hope some one can help

my system was running fine and i have also changed the battery inside logic board. still no joy...... also any help about reset buttons to default the mac system back ?

Well it looks like i solved the problems on my xserve ,after hearing from apple it could be this or that.
i decided to take the mission on .
"a little sleep and plenty of cups of tea later much... later" 😟

and 36 hours later i finally got to to get my xserve to boot up. after much hard work and research.

After checking out why i had red three lights "Only i had first seen two red leds on the logic board before when everything on the server was up and running fine ok no probs.

Anyway the Final and only problem was the pci card holder on the logic board was not seated right in place and it must have worked it self a little lose.

The red light :DS3"3rd red light next to the PMU button" if ON SHOWS That there is a problem and this is why she will not boot and usb firewire don't work.
Also if the Xserve fans should speed up very fast after 5 mins then please check all computer parts fitting right .. anything not seated right will make her boot no longer.

forget to worry about logic board , PMU and Firmware sec , usb, firewire not working at first if parts not fitted right.
p.s. battery and memory are needed to be check also

Finally i can get back to playing with the new baby Xserve
if this message could help you good luck

Had quite a similar issue on my test XServe.

Only it wouldn't boot up - period.
Had checked the other posts on the other forums for advice.
Purchased an Xserve spares pack before changing/moving any internal parts.

Following Jai Moses post, my test Xserve was back up and running inside 1.5Hrs. Including a strip and re-assemble.

Removed the 2 slot pci card and put the vga pci card into the single slot and everything is back. Have put the 2 slot card in a safe place - kept a minimal configuration.

Good advice. Thanks!

Hello - If you notice a bright red LED down the right air tunnel this may indicate bad processor, the LED that will light up is by the end of the power supply where the PMU Reset button is located. If this comes on then your processor has turned on its ckstop or check stop light and you have had a processor fault. The only way out of this is to replace the processor.
