Expense reports

Do a web search for 'excel template expense report' (no quotes). There are loads of them out there, an indication that Excel has been around longer than Numbers y will work in Numbers as well. Many of those templates will work in Numbers.

You may need to change the file extension from .xlt to .xls or from .xlyx to xlsx for Numbers to recognize it as an openable file. Numbers will offer a Warning list if any difficulties are presented. Ignore 'missing font' warnings as Numbers will substitute automatically. Pay attention to 'unsupported function' and 'unsupported feature' warnings as these may affect the operation of the spreadsheet.

I'm sure none of them are much simpler than the "Expense Report" template supplied with Numbers '09.

A caution on popups: The list of items can't be sorted, so think out what will be on it before you actually build that list.

If you haven't done so yet, download the Numbers '09 User Guide and the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide. Both are available through the Help menu in Numbers. The first is a readable overview of Numbers, the second a reference manual with explanations and examples for each function supported by Numbers. Both are available through the Help menu in Numbers.
