Selling books in iBooks

From what I'm reading, there is no physical way for an author to self-publish in iBooks, except thru a vanity press.

Does anyone know if this will change soon? It seems silly for iTunes to offer indie music but iBooks to be all corporatocracy.

I am a self-published author through Ingram's LightningSource.com. LightningSource is an approved Apple provider for ePub books. I recently received notification from LightningSource outlining the steps required for publishing to Apple iBooks Distribution Program:

- We manage the relationship, the process and the reporting
- Your content delivered to Apple, accepted in ePUB 1.0.5 only
- Conversion services available to help expedite content delivery
- Access to a major new channel for your content exposure

Publisher sets retail price $12.99
Publisher earns 64.4% per sale $8.37
Apple earns 30% per sale $3.90
Ingram earns 5.6% per sale $0.73

Google for other vendor's in the Apple iBooks Distribution Program.

To get your stuff into the iBookstore you need to use an aggregator. The iBooks app can read epub books obtained elsewhere however.

Nobody knows, and Apple never provides advance info. But you can tell them what you want here:
