DVD will NOT force eject

A friend of mine Macbook will not eject the DVD. We tried all methods seen here on the forum and nothing works. Really miss that manual eject with the paper clip.In fact, I did not know that my Macbook Pro does not have this manual eject; and now, I am coming to the conclusion that that was a design error. Also another disappointment was the lack of a firewire port on the unibody. I had hoped to install Snow Leopard to see may be that robust system might eject the DVD.

We are open to other suggestion as to what else we may try to eject the DVD. Thanks

Connect a mouse to the computer.

Start up the computer with the mouse button pressed down, keep it pressed until the DVD ejects.

If that does not work it is very likely that the eject mechanism has failed and the only way to get it out is to have Apple look at it. Event the manual eject button would not get the DVD out if the mechanism has failed.
