hope someone is checking this thread. i recently got a couple of Lombards with bad hard drives which i replaced. they are running Panther just fine. the G3's came with a GOLD and Silver Lucent Wavelan Orinoco PCMCIA cards for wi fi but i can't seem to find drivers to get them working. they power up okay but won't connect with a network. was hoping to give them to a needy family but would like for them to have the wireless networking feature. Googled and got a number of sites but most have broken links or are for Windows units. be happy to buy the drivers for a small sum if they would work for Macs. any help appreciated.
Mini,iMac, MacBook all intel Cube, Blueberry Clamshell,
Mac OS X (10.6.3),
Good amount of RAM for all, lots of GB hard drives
yeah i check that out as well but as the seller said
"OSX drivers can be found here --->
http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/download.html This driver may not work for everyone, One person could not get it to work on a Powerbook G3 Pismo (Bronze Keyboard) running OSX." when i went there i found No Mac drivers!
"The driver here-->
http://ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html seems to work for him, but I do not guarantee OSX compatability." the drivers on this site specifically excluded the Orinoco cards .thanks for trying my friend.
I've never tried the opensource drivers on sourceforge, but I do have experience using the IOXperts 802.11b driver for the Lucent Orinoco Gold card on Lombards and Pismos. It works on both OS9 (where it's superfluous since the card works natively on OS9) and OSX. They have versions of the driver for both Panther and Tiger.
Here are the combinations:
Lombard + OS9* + Lucent Orinoco Gold card = No driver needed (you must be using the most up-to-date version of AirPort for OS9*) - another option, use the IOXperts OS9 version - that works too, as well as the Lucent drivers
Lombard + OS X 10.3x + Lucent Orinoco Gold card = IOXperts driver for 10.3x
Lombard + OS X 10.4x + Lucent Orinoco Gold card = IOXperts driver for 10.4x
(Same combinations for Pismos)
When the IOXperts site indicates that their 802.11b drivers don't work withe Orinoco Silver and Gold cards, my understanding is that this applies for the cards manufactured by Proxim, not for those that were made by Lucent Technologies (off which the original Apple AirPort card was based).
When buying the IOXperts driver, please note that the driver will be licensed to work for only one card (but you can use the card + driver on different compatible machines). If you need drivers for multiple cards, you will have to purchase a driver for each.
