Sep 20, 2010 6:34 AM in response to Kopyby MauroGx,this is a hardware issues, probably with nvidia gpu. if you have warranty, take the machine to tech support, must change the logic board.
remember, the Mac OS is perfect! lol lol -
Sep 20, 2010 6:50 AM in response to Evangeline Tasoby slog,Evangeline - get your money back and buy a top of the line Windows 7 machine. Maximum memory and most powerful i7 Intel processor. It will cost less and won't freeze up on you. Apple ought to be ashamed of themselves for putting loyal customers through this hassle. -
Sep 20, 2010 6:53 AM in response to slogby Kopy,Yes , im apple user more than 15 years ago.
Never i had this kind of freezes with my powermac, ibook g3 ,powerbook g4 or Imac..

Sep 20, 2010 7:11 PM in response to Artitronby JK09,I can't believe this thread is still going strong. Apple released a firmware update 3-4 weeks ago specifically to fix the mid-2010 MBP freezing problem. Have all of the people who have commented recently installed the firmware update?
I was planning to buy a new 17" MBP 2-3 months ago but held off after hearing about this issue. I thought (hoped) the recent firmware update had solved the problem and it was now safe for me to buy, but now I'm having second thoughts (again). -
Sep 21, 2010 3:20 AM in response to JK09by xtek,I have mid 2010 13" MB Pro 7,1 in it freezes a lot.
I can't upgrade firmware, because it is for 15" and 17"
Anyone have solution for this? -
Sep 21, 2010 6:26 AM in response to Artitronby Revoli,I also have the same freezing problem (MBP 13" 7,1). It usually happens about once every couple of days, but can happen more frequently aswell, even twice in a row. I have tried all the normal fixes (SMC, disk utility etc etc..)
I obviously have warranty since the machine is only a couple months old but I really wish to hear something from Apple's side before taking it for servicing.
For me aswell this is my first Mac and like many others I bought it because I got tired with all the problems with windows. Let's jut say that if Apple doesn't admit the problem soon this will also be my last Mac. -
Sep 21, 2010 7:00 AM in response to Revoliby xtek,That's exactly how my Macbook acts! It just freezes every couple of days, sometimes more frequently. When it's freezed it won't react to anything - keyboard, touchpad etc. Only solution is to press power button for a few seconds and turn it on again. -
Sep 21, 2010 10:16 AM in response to Artitronby John Gray1,I just want to chime in that I've lived with this problem for many months and none of the OS updates or EFI firmware releases have helped my problem. I still see hard freezes nearly on a regular basis and the loss of productivity has now surpassed the value of the machine itself. This is obviously an Nvidia graphics card problem from the few logs I'm able to extract (sometimes machine does not leave any logs on hard freeze). There are defective Nvidia cards in all our machines (as has happened before) and without a class action lawsuit, they will continue to ignore it. This is the third Apple laptop I've bought that's had a bad Nvidia graphics card out of the gate over many years and models. In this case, I'd surmise the entire crop of Nvidia cards were faulty from the start based on sheer numbers of problems. I do not know a single person that bought the latest revision macbook near release date who doesn't encounter regular freezes. None of use deserve to have bought faulty machines from the factory as we all have.

Sep 21, 2010 11:14 AM in response to Artitronby igor_ua,I have absolutely the same issue. My MPB is just two weeks old and it happened to me for 4 times already. This is my first Mac and if this problem will not be solved, it will be the last one as well. -
Sep 23, 2010 1:34 PM in response to Artitronby g-mcgale,Just wanted to add my 2 cents to keep this thread live. I've had the same issue since I bought my macbook pro a month ago.
I've basically resorted to just not using my macbook with external monitors.
I'm considering bringing it into the apple store to replace the logic board like many people have suggested, but I doubt that will solve the issue. -
Sep 23, 2010 2:43 PM in response to Artitronby tinskip,I have a 2010 MBP with a similar configuration:
MBP 17" 2.66GHz i7
8GB RAM
500GB HD
I have been experiencing the freeze problem everyone's describing about once a week, and once with hard drive side effects including lost files. I haven't seen a Mac do this sort of thing in many years. -
Sep 23, 2010 6:24 PM in response to Artitronby zamdee,I've had MBP (my first Mac I might add) for just a little bit over a month now. Yesterday I had my first lockup (the machine was connected to external monitor at the time.) Today I've had TWO lockups just about an hour apart; both times with lost work. These ones had no mouse movement and required a hard reset.
Just adding to this thread since there is still no solution for 13" models. -
Sep 23, 2010 8:36 PM in response to zamdeeby MrSingh03,I've had my mac for about two days now. It has crashed on my a total of three times now. This is the latest one Model: MC374LL/A. I've had a pc my whole life and never once seen it crash on my this quick and not allow me to even force quit. I just ran the software update and had like a gig download in updates, its locked up on me twice after I did that. The screen will literally just flash some random color lines and then lock. Not too sure if i'm going to keep this thing. -
Sep 23, 2010 9:16 PM in response to Artitronby dangobot,i've been watching this thread for several months, and despite the doom and gloom purchased a MBP13" at the beginning of July. i was hoping that the 13" would not have problems since it has a different nvidia chip and no intel graphics. so far i've had only one freeze, about ten days ago, while watching a dvd. i'm surprised to see a few 13" owners on here and wonder if it is really the same issue as with the 15's & 17's. it certainly seems as if a huge percentage of people reporting problems have windows installed and/or are using an external monitor. i'm also wondering how many used migration assistant. i've seen a lot of weird problems crop up on new machines from migrating what turned out to be corrupted files.
good luck to all -
Sep 23, 2010 9:54 PM in response to dangobotby MrSingh03,So in the span of my last post it did it again. All I was doing was surfing the web on safari checking some new music blogs and the screen this time flickered and wouldn't force quit. I actually taped it on my cellphone and now when i try to start it back up it just beeps at me and won't turn on! Seriously I've had a vaio for five years never once had an issue like this. This is brand spanking new. Apple f---ed up on this and officially lost a customer. Back to the pc I go.
