Oct 3, 2010 11:40 PM in response to Artitronby Kopy,Yesterday i was testing ram and forced the machine to the max with a lot of aplications opened, testing ram with 2 programs together and the system went solwly but went ok....
2 hours later working at 90% cpu i pushed power button to get option to shut down ,restart etc, and the system FROZEN!
The freeze was like the 3 last i had ...same symptoms!
Only fix is power button.
So i think this issue is related to RAM ,or temperature.
I dont know if making the machine to work a lot with memory test working too ,can freeze it,but i did it!
My test Ram is always ok, and in service center they said me ok too..
Strange. -
Oct 4, 2010 2:28 AM in response to Kopyby houli,Well I am sure it is not temperature related because mine froze a few seconds after reaching the login screen as well.
Since I got a logic board exchanged already and the unit is still freezing it might be a RAM issue but I am not sure about that as well since updating the EFI to v1.9 changed the behaviour of the hangs.
Before the EFI upgrade the screen froze with the last picture on it and the mouse was still moving. Now after upgrading the screen flickers and the pixels of the last picture are all messed up.
Neither OSX nor Windows7 64 Ultimate is working correctly. I sometimes have freezes after a few minutes and then sometime it works an entire day.
Whatever this phenomena is Apple should really start making an official announcement on how they think to handle this issue. I gave my laptop again to repair, if I get it back again with this issues I won't buy a single piece of HW again, especiall because Apple is not saying anything to this issue and that kind a p** me off. -
Oct 4, 2010 3:56 AM in response to Artitronby Stefan Kreutter,My MacBook Pro 17" core i7 runs fine on Mac OS X so far but has serious issues on Windows XP. I always get a blue screen (IRQLNOT_LESS_OREQUAL, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818501) when launching Command And Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars.
Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) reports faulty... hundreds of thousand errors within a minute.
Has anyone with freeze issues tried Memtest86+? It's a free ISO image than one can burn on CD. Hold down option when restarting and choose to boot from CD. A small linux kernel is booted and the memory test is launched.
Please report you experiences with Memtest86+

Oct 4, 2010 12:07 PM in response to Artitronby ntcmontoya,I have a (MacBookPro7,1-INTEL Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz) 4GB RAM - HD 250 GB 5400 rpm Hitachi bought in Sep 04, 2010, the iterative problem is the total freeze of the laptop, starts with a white screen and no possibility of partial release, the only way release has been pressing the power button, that is, off and on again. To rule out specific flaws in components, I have already tested review standard memory, hard disk and without obtaining temperature measurements or abnormal diagnoses. But it is a comfort I noticed that I'm not the only one with this problem, Apple Distinguished any ideas? -

Oct 5, 2010 9:21 AM in response to Kopyby skychief77,Well, as I've already mentioned: Add this topic to the wikipedia entry of MacBook Pro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Pro , create subsection called 'technical issues', give a reference to this thread for proof, and you will increase the pressure on Apple.
As for me, I installed gfxCardStatus, keep it running on either nvidia or intel chips and it works fine, no more freezes.
Good luck to all you guys who keep experiencing freezes, and knock on wood for me. -

Hi Laundryman!
I understood, that you decided to run your machine on NVIDIA graphic card only? How long time do you working wit graphic switching off? -
Oct 6, 2010 5:16 AM in response to Artitronby Julian Wainwright,I've had my MacBook Pro (15" Core i5, 2.4ghz, 8GB RAM, hi-res, antiglare screen) for about a month, been experiencing the same freezes quite regularly. Had the hard drive replaced last week, and not much has changed. Talking to Apple shortly to explore the next option. Replacement? Quite frustrating...
