Oct 6, 2010 5:18 AM in response to Danny_Bekermanby Laundryman, been working with graphics switching off for 3 weeks - since I did it no freezes - except once when a software update ran, and reset the graphics switching to on. -
Oct 6, 2010 12:06 PM in response to Julian Wainwrightby newhamburg, hello julian, i have the same machine and had the same issue as well. did you updated all softwareside options? I was lucky because that was plenty. freezing problems went away as they came.
if it still is running incorrect i would accept the proposal by artitron and replace your machine by apple. -
Oct 6, 2010 12:15 PM in response to Artitronby Kopy,Well...
I talked again with apple after send my system logs after a clean install and update..
Listen!!!
They said me my updates are corrupted in logs caused by wifi update!!
WHAT?
a wifi conection OS update can freeze a MAcbook pro? sorry but ..hahahahaha
Now they request me an ew install(tired to reinstall OSX) ,with updates made by ethernet!!And send logs again,,,,,,,,
Im furious, they are wasting time and thinking im idiot!!
Also they said me they dont see any hardware fail in logs...
Of course, they are random logs !! my god!! i cant believe apple supervisors..
In that case, all users will have freezes!!
really ungry and i ccant do anything..
never again -

Oct 6, 2010 3:49 PM in response to Kopyby johnny quid,so lets narrow this down a bit
fresh install of the os still causes freeze
does disabling the graphics switching software and using either the intel or nvidia chip avoid the freeze
other apple machines using snow leopard are they experiencing freezing (if not then it most likely could be a hardware problem with the mbp)
and i was also wondering if these crashes and freezes are so wide spread how isn't it in the news ?
can i have a YES/NO answer to this please: can leopard 10.5.8 be installed on a mid 2010 mbp? -
Oct 6, 2010 4:03 PM in response to Artitronby Mitch Towne1,Wow...this thread is a serious buzz kill. I just ordered an awesome refurbished 15 inch 2.66 I7 MBP. I really should have checked this forum first. Now I have already cancelled the order (though it is going to ship...I will have to just send it back). I just can't deal with having a computer that might be a time bomb. I went through that with the processor whine issue with my first MBP and I won't deal with it again.
So, anyone have any advice regarding getting a 2.8 Core 2 Duo instead of the I7? Do the Core 2 Duos have the same problem or do they have some other gremlin that is just as bad?
Thanks! -
Oct 6, 2010 10:52 PM in response to johnny quidby houli,No, it can't.
To switch graphics switching off doesn't help on against the freezing issue. Still freezes. -
Oct 6, 2010 10:59 PM in response to houliby johnny quid,ok
think it safe to return and go the way of another brand 3k usd is too much for this level of headache -
Oct 6, 2010 11:52 PM in response to Mitch Towne1by eddieddu,My direct comparison between my first, replaced MBP 2.8CD and my current i7 is
->2.8 gets much more hotter and has in addition much louder fans. So in total the machine is loader.
->under heavy use with several VMWares and applications with large memory and processor foot prints the machine is fast and stable (having 8GB non Apple RAM as well)
->in my case i had only THREE freezes in the last 4 months so far for which I'm not sure if they are related to the here discussed issue -
Oct 6, 2010 11:57 PM in response to eddiedduby Kopy,I think your issue is luke us
YOu had 3 freezes in 4 months?
Me 3 in 4 months too
Now it doesnt freeze since 1 month..but i dont trust
Can happen again! -
Oct 7, 2010 2:17 PM in response to eddiedduby Mitch Towne1,Thank you for the comparison.
I got Apple to waive the restocking fee, so I might go ahead and open the box and check it out. Is there anything that I could do to test this machine for the freeze issue? Is there anything that makes it freeze on a consistent basis?
Thanks! -

Yes, using the mbp At least for me anyways. -
Oct 7, 2010 2:30 PM in response to Vadim T.by Kopy,Unfortunately freezes came to me 1 month later....
If the machine is "freeze posibble" it will show it soon or later..
But try to wotk with it at max during hours .
Try to force the machine to work a lot,a few hours..and test ...
First of all,i would make 2 o 3 Hardware tests ,with the machine hot(some problems come for hot).... in extended mode test..
Also i would make a test Ram a few times....
Smart check.
And sector hardrive testing....
Hope it helps.. -
Oct 7, 2010 8:19 PM in response to Kopyby Mitch Towne1,So, what you are saying is to run these tests and then see if the machine freezes?
I haven't read all of the 46 pages on this thread but I have read quite a few. It seems like some people have remedied the situation by turning off graphics switching, while others haven't.
My biggest worry with the machine is having it freeze while I am using it for a music performance with Mainstage. Has anyone had any problems similar to this? -
Oct 7, 2010 9:20 PM in response to Mitch Towne1by Kopy,@Mitch
Yes ,do that test ,you dont lose nothing...
Im dj and producer too, i use it for performance too...
I used it 2 gigs with no problems, but it frozen at home (lucky) 3 times ...
Never again i go with it,now i go with my old Powerbook g4 (2002),till Apple fix my problem.
Good luck!
