Nov 6, 2010 7:17 PM in response to Artitronby DShizas,Hey guys,
I was watching a video on youtube and after i got out of full screen the whole thing froze. Non responding, but i could still hear the audio from the video but visually, it was frozen. I tried to get into the force quit menu, didn't reply, but I fixed it by going into front row??? (command+esc)
I have had it for only 1.5 weeks and ive had it twice. I'm a bit concerned. Please reply,
Daniel -
Nov 7, 2010 6:07 PM in response to DShizasby keithroby,so it's frozen twice today.
that's 4 times this month.
what's the first step? call Apple?
is this really freakin happening? a $2400 laptop and THIS?!?! -
Nov 7, 2010 6:13 PM in response to keithrobyby louise_b,Hi Daniel & Keith, I was in the same position as you guys, very frustrated with a freezing brand new MBP. It took a few calls to apple support, a visit to a service provider and finally a trip to genius bar but mine is now sorted. A replacement harddrive at the genius bar and then restoring my files manually rather than with migration assistant seemed to work for me. Don't know if others have had the same success - this problem might be due to various different causes with different solutions. Good luck! It's an awesome computer once the freezes are gone. -
Nov 7, 2010 6:40 PM in response to louise_bby keithroby,i am suspecting the culprit might be Google Chrome. i guess i'll call Apple support... -
Nov 7, 2010 7:11 PM in response to Artitronby NexusNexus,Same issue as everyone is describing here, except I have a Macbook Pro 13inch, 4GB mem, 1TB Toshiba Hard Drive, bought from the Apple Store Sept 2010. Has frozen about 6 times since new. Twice this past week. Once during a presentation...
Worried about getting a replacement computer from Apple as the first two I received had too many dead pixels.
Some say software update or perhaps even a firmware update might do. How long should we wait? -
Nov 8, 2010 2:04 PM in response to Artitronby Marie.B,I am also experiencing a freeze, in that i cannot click on anything to carry one my business. The mouse can move about somewhat, though not without some spazzing out. Seems the trackpad is non responsive as I click on things. Then I can't do anything and I am forced to shut down with the off button. I am not doing anything other than on facebook or email when this happens. -
Nov 9, 2010 12:24 AM in response to Marie.Bby JohnLang,Ive had my MBP (2.4ghz, 4gig ram) for not even a week now. I was on youtube (others running on safari were facebook, a shoe website, and i think gmail) and it froze on me. the only thing that moved was the mouse. There was no response to anything when i was clicking around. force quit didnt do anything either. I had to power it down via power button. I didnt wait for 10-15 minutes as someone else noted.
Since I had my laptop (< 1 week) this was the first time it froze. From other post, I'm guessing it has something to do with either it interfacing with youtube, google, or safari? -
Nov 9, 2010 8:00 AM in response to JohnLangby Marie.B,I just had a breakthru! I also have a magic mouse. I wasn't using it during all the freezes -which it did immediately at startup this morn. I just restarted and am using the magic mouse and it is working so far...could it be the trackpad???? -
Nov 9, 2010 11:08 PM in response to Artitronby NexusNexus,I have had more crashes with this Macbook Pro 13 in the past three weeks (about 10-15) than I had with my 2007 model Macbook for over 3 years.
This thread has had over a quarter of a million views and the most posts of all. Obviously Apple is monitoring this thread and obviously there is a problem which needs to be addressed. Either it is software or hardware. Apple please provide us with information. I will wait another week, then I will drop this machine off at Apple for refund. I have owned over 10 macs since 2002 and have never had these types of problems. -
Nov 10, 2010 2:21 AM in response to Artitronby mbta3247,Hi.
I was having the same problem with my 17" i7 MBP. Frequent freezes which usually traced back to the Nvidia card, which started getting really bad in mid-October. I finally took it in to the Genius Bar a week and a half ago. After looking at the crash logs, the guy I spoke to there agreed with me that the graphics card appeared to be defective (the machine also [conveniently?] froze while I was booting it up to show him the logs) and took it in to have the logic board replaced. So far the new board is working fine (knock on wood), with 6.5 days of uptime since I got it back. Software does not appear to have been an issue in my case, as my hard drive and files were left untouched by the techs who replaced the logic board. -
Nov 11, 2010 4:52 AM in response to Artitronby The Macthussiat,Has this been addressed? From what I am reading there may be a serious problem. I was fine, I upgraded to 10.6 applied updates and after 2 mos of perfection it started w.n 24 hours I realized something central was wrong.
Due to console logs, removed google apps and updated then started getting errors for more fundamental processes. Now it take two minutes to startup.
Prior to this event, I noticed that iPhoto was not giving the picture in edit mode plus several other idiosyncrasies seemingly unrelated. I use mbp as a machine to demo to others. So following what I would tell them, I freed up disk space, removed all my movies, began to cull my photos and iTunes podcasts, I monitored activity and saw large spikes. Thought there was malware as I monitored w/o any apps running just finder. At the instigation of serious instability installed sophos.
As that was running finally went to google. Realized I was seeing on one machine what others were seeing individually.
I am running the latest of everything. Geniuses follow a script, If this does not have a stated fix, they will tear my machine apart and then tell me that I need a new board. I can't even get Sophos to run completely. The most so far is 72 percent complete. Then the system become non responsive.
HAS THERE BEEN A RECOGNITION OF THIS ISSUE AND A SOLUTION PROTOCOL? -
Nov 13, 2010 9:14 PM in response to The Macthussiatby 1FELIX,Hallo All!
I had this incidence never under MacOS but cumulative under Windows 7 64bit when gaming.
I would exclude a heat issue. Could it be a graphic chip problem or is it a driver problem (after first problems i took the newest driver from the 330m producers but...same issue)?
Grateful for a competent answer....
My Model is 3 weeks old

Nov 14, 2010 1:49 AM in response to Artitronby zigller, ive had the same problems 2 weeks after i got my MBC'7 13. mine freezes after an interrupted internet connection. most of the time, i tether my notebook to my 8 gig iPhone 3G via bluetooth.
ive tried repair permissions and have had this unit's OS reinstalled. The problem resurfaced about a month after the 2nd installation.

Nov 14, 2010 6:03 AM in response to zigllerby producer77,Hi all
I have permanent kernel panic when running on 330M card.
I try different types of workload - just browsing, film watching, gaming...
Only difference is if i play CoD4 - it's freezes in 5-10 min, in other activities - from 1 to 5 hours...
In all cases i have something like this in crashlog:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.1.4)@0x5c318000->0x5c735fff
dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.1.4)@0x5bbc1000
com.apple.NVDAResman(6.1.4)@0x5bbc1000->0x5be9afff
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6)@0x5344b000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.1)@0x5ab45000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.1)@0x5b762000
Besides while i switch to internal Intel HD - everything fine.
Very, very, very bad.
Back to Mac you say, Mr. Jobs????? -
