Nov 18, 2010 3:57 PM in response to Artitronby actionjack84,This thread is severely fractured with varied architecture and almost certainly varied root issues. Even so, it appears there is an underlying potential hardware issue that Apple will likely need to deal with and it would be responsible of them to parse this thread to the extent that is possible. For a while I felt my issue was likely to be software conflicts but new hardware has apparently resolved my issue. I still get notified when this thread is modified so I spend some cycles noodling it.
I'm no expert but I play one on the internet in various fields of interest of mine. The underling common denominator seems to be RAM and nVidia. In the end I would not be surprised if the culprit winds up being bad vRAM. Some are unlucky to get a machine that has bad vRam and most are not.
As for an underlying software issue, sure that's possible but Kernel panics are usually hardware related. I purchased a refurb MBP13, it worked flawlessly for several days. I took the time to migrate everything, downloaded updates willy nilly, and sometime after the panics started. As a last resort before appealing to Apple to replace my machine I attempted a clean install from the factory CDs and the machine panic'ed then! Still staring at the grey screen of death I called Apple and was authorized to get a NEW machine. Which has worked flawlessly day after day including running XP and Win7 via Parallels. The only software that I have not put on the new machine, that I had loaded on the returned machine (that I can remember) is my WiFire driver and MS Office 2011. Weirdly I was having great success working with work related MS Office files using Open Office 3.2.1 on the returned machine but Open Office does not read the same work related files on the NEW machine - Go figure.
If you are having problems it is sensible to give some background and state
Machine?
Refurb purchase?
Used Migration Assistant? ONLY RECOMMEND FW TARGET DISK MODE?
Did Migration Assistant fail before succeeding? (that happened on my first machine)
Have any third party RAM installed?
JMO
Apple customer service treated my very well. If it can't be resolved try that politely (as hard as that may be). Knock on wood my NEW MBP is quite nice without the panics. -
Nov 19, 2010 10:58 AM in response to Artitronby nima_saboonchi,I have MacBook Pro 15" i7 and I have freezing problem too from firs day that I got this. It happens several times a day and I face with this freezing in most applications, such as Safari, FireFox, Yahoo messenger, Skype, IntelliJ IDEA (java programing IDE), ooVoo, ScreenFlow, Parallel , ...
I tried to re install fresh OSX and using Safari for just surfing but unfortunately I face with same problem but honestly few times than when I install many applications.
I am using a tool to keep graphic card in one mode and prevent to switch between graphic cards.
I am using a tool to ignore running flash plugins in web pages.
I tried Apple hardware tool as they told me to test from apple care but it doesn't show any error in hard ware.
Steel I have this ...... freezing problem. :((((((((
I thing it's related to my HDD because I had MacBook Pro 15" core 2 Due 2.8 and I had these two MacBook in same time for 1 month and when I installed same windows 7 in both computers via bootcamp and I after all updates and drivers installation I compare rate tool in windows for "Primary Hard disk" sub score in my new i7 macbook was 0.2 point less than old one.
any solution or suggestion -
Nov 19, 2010 6:02 PM in response to nima_saboonchiby GoTVols, take it into an Apple Store and ask for a replacement. Nothing said on these posts seems to be fixing the problem your encountering. The sooner you take it back the quicker you can get a replacement that may be fine. -
Nov 20, 2010 1:04 PM in response to GoTVolsby Pufichek,Hi guys,
I thought I might share with you the amazing thing that is happening. I read this whole thread, as I had (and have) a terrible BLUE SCREEN freeze (when boot, right before the user-password screen) on my 2010 MBP.
I tried everything, resetting PRAM, safe mode then fixing permissions, checking disk etc. Nothing works. I read every single post of this thread and more!
Then I noticed that if I boot without being connected to electricity (battery only) it boots fine!!! How can that be???
Well if you have that same problem, try disconnecting the MBP from the mains, that may let you boot.
I will go next to the Apple store geniuses and see what they say.
Best wishes! -
Nov 21, 2010 4:24 AM in response to Pufichekby 1FELIX,Hey!
As I already mentioned i never had this freezes under MacOS.
I updated the Nvidia driver for Windows 7 four days ago and since then no freezes in Windows any more...I tested it via Prime and games no worries any more.
So for me problem is solved and I am sure it was a driver incidence under Win.
Really glad about it
Greetings -
Nov 21, 2010 4:35 AM in response to 1FELIXby skychief77,I got the same problem under Windows 7 only. Do you have a link to the nvidia driver for Windows 7? That would be cool if that worked for me too.
Best wishes -

Nov 21, 2010 10:57 AM in response to Artitronby xc70,I didn't know about this thread. It's really very looooooooooong.
I bought the MBP 13 "(Mid 2010) to retire a Powerbook 15" 1GHz Titanium and a PowerMac G4 1.25 GHzMirrored Drive, both with OS X Tiger and zero problems.
Two months of using MBP 13 "and four freezing!
Apple reacts! Wanted to buy another MBP for my girlfriend but I see that my problem is not unique and that Apple does not do anything so do not buy it. -
Nov 22, 2010 1:47 AM in response to GoTVolsby D37,I bought my mac about 4 months ago. Can I still get a replacement? -

Nov 22, 2010 9:14 AM in response to danligby Kopy,Why this only happens with PRO units¿
Why doesnt happen with macbooks?
They are the same machine inside i think....
strange.... -
Nov 22, 2010 3:55 PM in response to Kopyby AButo,I've been using the Firefox and it passed 45 days without any Webkitpluginhost panic.
Today Nov 22nd, Apple released another Safari Fix. I updated and now restarted using Safari. After some time using Safari, another WebkitPluginhost Panic.
!!!! DO NOT RUN SAFARI !!!! Run FIREFOX and you'll be out of Webkit panics !!!! -

Hmm, yes, the newest white MacBooks and the Pro 13" share the same nVidia graphics chip, so they should be very similar internally. -

I think these Webkit panics are symptoms of more severe errors (or maybe you have out-of-date plugins in your Safari?). In any case, I have never had a Webkit-related panic, and I almost exclusively use Safari.
