May 26, 2010 6:32 PM in response to Duk242by hidden72,I got a new 15" a couple of weeks ago. I've probably experienced 5 lockups total. They've always seemed to happen when I was minimizing or maximizing a window. I'll have to pay some more attention as to the circumstances surrounding the lockups.

May 26, 2010 7:11 PM in response to rod.guiby mgcharlie,I think it is because there is no graphics switching on your macbook pro 13".
What are the symptoms you're experiencing on the macbook?

One thing though. I initially ordered it April 16th, and it just didn't show up. There were delays, caused by the Icelandic ash cloud, but after the airports opened, nothing happened. Turned out that didn't make the machine before May 10, and there was a delay they couldn't explain. Maybe waiting for new components, to replace the faulty ones? Just a thought. -
May 27, 2010 6:32 AM in response to Hedemannby califfo1975,I ordered mine on Apr 21th and received on May 6th, so I did not encounter the delay problem you are talking about and mine was a CTO.
With respect to your assumption, the complaints have been starting to grow-up right now and I would be surprised that they had the time to address this 'possible' HW problem so early. If, nevetheless, they were aware of this and let a lots of faulty machines in the world, they are to be blamed!!!
With respect to the kind of poll that I launched yesterday requesting to post the gmux versions and ROM, etc... looking rapidly at the data it appears that:
- there are 1 month old MBP that never froze (with 3523 rom and 1.9.21 gmux)
- 3540 rom + gmux 1.9.22 is not freezing-free and 2 mbp with the same versions may freeze or not freeze....
- maybe there is both HW and s/w contribution to this bl*y freezing issue
- a mere s/w or f/w issue should not be completely excluded as the freezing is random (some people did not report any more in last days, or did have it under light load and not under heavy one....)
- I am really surprised by Apple not providing information about this: moreover the many returns of some MBP should not have been so beneficial to them!!
In the light of this, if we wanted really to know who has newer HW than others we should post either manufacturing date or (even better) S/N of the MBP.
in spite of this, this latter is confidential I believe, and not all of you / us might agree to post S/N.
I let you comment on this.
Cheers. -
May 27, 2010 6:49 AM in response to califfo1975by Appelflap,I think the SMC version is also something of interest since it also handles the cooling(fan speeds)
I have found some reports of people having the same freezing issue's, after they increased the fan speed(manually) they claim that their freezing is gone.

May 27, 2010 7:24 AM in response to Artitronby joelyen,This is my first post. Let me add mine to the list so there are more data for everyone.
I bought this CTO 15" i5 Hi-Res Matte, 500G 7200rpm on May 4th and it has this problem all the time (even when I first boot it up!)! Oddly, I also bought another one (same spec) for my friend and his has NO issue at all. I also notice that it only happens when there are disk usages.
I have re-installed a couple times, with and without Time Machine restore. And it all has problems. This is my first mac and I am very disappointed.

May 27, 2010 7:32 AM in response to joelyenby califfo1975,2 questions:
- when was your machine theoretically manufactured, i.e. is 4th May the date at which you received it or at which you ordered it?
- have the 2 mbp been bought the same day? Or is the non-freezing one more recent than the freezing one?
Cheers -
May 27, 2010 8:00 AM in response to califfo1975by joelyen,1) Sorry, I mixed up the date. Mine was ordered on May 1st. The second one is ordered on May 4th. Just a couple days apart.
2) I guessed mine was built a bit earlier. But I am not sure.
One more note: after I encountered this problems for a couple of days, I ran Disk Utility and found out that the HD was corrupted. I was thinking that it may be the root cause. I took it back to the repair shop and has the hard drive replaced and the problem still occurs.
I than seached the net and found this post.
Maybe I could ask my friend for his system info to compare the firmware, etc. -
May 27, 2010 9:01 AM in response to joelyenby Appelflap, yes, Please compare the 2 , i hope something is different in the configuration/versions.

May 27, 2010 8:49 AM in response to Artitronby FiveLittleFish,I replied earlier on, to report no issues with my machine. It occurred to me that anyone WITHOUT problems probably wouldn't be reporting on this thread, or even aware of it. I only happened to notice it because I was searching for separate wireless issues. So the thread is skewed in favour of owners with issues (as you'd expect - users tend to report problems, not good things)
Today, my MBP has been under heavy load, all day, with Final Cut. NO freezes and all the time in Nvidea (I've yet to see a switch to Intel) -
May 27, 2010 9:53 AM in response to baselinerby baseliner,Something strange happened yesterday. I put my machine to sleep, took it into work and plugged it into the Dell 24" display at my desk. It connected fine in the Intel only mode. I then unplugged it from the display and took it for a meeting. After the meeting, when I plugged the display back in, it wouldn't show up on the external display and kept on flickering on the laptop's screen. I then changed the mode to Nvidia only and it worked. I came home and re-tried what I did yesterday when I was able to connect using Intel only to my ASUS 24" and this time, it wouldn't connect. So, definitely something buggy going on.
Anyways, I was on Intel only for 2 days and did not have any freezes, and I've been on Nvidia only for 1 day and no freezes yet. Will continue to monitor. -
May 27, 2010 10:10 AM in response to baselinerby califfo1975,remind to us please: do you currently have a replacement?
Thanks
