Q: MacBook Pro (2010) Freeze

Anyone else with the new i7 MBP experiencing a hard freeze? No Grey Screen of Death, just freezing screen and input. Only remedy is to hold the power button to cycle the power.

It has frozen twice in the last week. Both times the machine was on battery power and certainly not under load - just light browsing, no gaming.

Just curious if this is going to be a longer term problem...

MacBook Pro 15" Core i5 (Serial starts with W8) here. Had my first freeze today. What a bummer. I hope Apple fixes it with a software update. I'd rather not part with this machine

I had my first freeze today when I was on Facebook using Chrome.
It happened when I tried to access someone's profile page.
The only thing I could do is to move the trackpad.

To all last posts' people, reporting freeze problems: would you mind posting partial s/n as well as manufacture date plus gmux, rom versions, as requested some posts before? Thank you for your help.

So would you guys say that it's a good idea to return the MacBook Pro? How likely do you think it is that this will be fixed via software?

I had the same hesitation as you but looking at freezing that occrs also on latest produced machines i preferred to wait for a possible sw fix. Not sure that it may be only hw problem.

Same issue. Just bought my Core i7 MBP 15" on Tuesday and it's locked up about 3 times on me so far... thought it was my aftermarket Intel SSD but this thread seems to be what I've got. Wondering whether I should replace.

    A new data point:

I got a week old 15'' i5 and so far I did not encounter any freezes (keeping my fingers crossed) despite running the machine almost 24/7.

However, contrary to most of you guys I migrated from a mid 2007 SR Macbook Pro.

A few days ago Software Update reminded me, that due to my migration I am missing a few crucial updates, e.g.

    MacBook Pro Software Update 1.3
    Safari 4.0.5

I strongly suspect MacBook Pro Software Update 1.3 - although it claims to resolve "improvements for graphics stability" I suspect this update broke something big time.

Anybody out there without crashes and without the MacBook Pro Software Update 1.3?

Well, for what it's worth...another config dump. I'm experiencing exactly the issue described in this thread. Total freeze, sound continues at least for a while. Had my 15" i7 for around 2 weeks. Froze twice so far. Hard reset required. Didn't try waiting for half an hour to see what happens. Automatic graphics switching enabled. No external display.

Praying that 10.6.4 will solve it.
