Aug 26, 2010 6:22 PM in response to BigCat400by GizmosTail,6.1 is MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2010).
6.2 is MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)
i5 or i7 is irrelevant with regard to the model identifier -
Aug 26, 2010 6:28 PM in response to GizmosTailby BigCat400,Thanks for the info. So the question is, who is this update for then? -

Aug 26, 2010 6:40 PM in response to BigCat400by MikhailT,It's the answer to your question, if you asked why it only installs on some MBP6,2 and not all then that's a different question and I haven't knock down a pattern yet. It appears that it may be for machines that have the ROM lower than B0A for now. -
Aug 27, 2010 12:16 AM in response to MikhailTby califfo1975,Do you have a remote idea whether or not they did a downclock of GPU (GT330M) with either the SL graphic update or EFI update? In other words, do you have an idea whether they targeted to solve this freezing problem by slowing GPU perfo down or by improving the auto-switching with Intel HD chip?
Cheers and thanks -
Aug 27, 2010 12:23 AM in response to Artitronby Massimo Grossi,No update found for me as well...

Numero totale di nuclei: 2

After the replacement of this machine I had no hard freeze.
I still use gfxCardStatus fixed on nVidia card, but I don't know if this is the reason for my stability. -
Aug 27, 2010 12:28 AM in response to califfo1975by skychief77,With the firmware update installed, I do notice a change with the auto switching. I am using Earthdesk, an application that requires nvidea. Before the update, the auto switching would switch to the nvidea as soon as earthdesk was launched. With the update, it does not switch to the nvidea, on the contrary if before on the nvidea, it even switches to the intel chip which makes it impossible for me to use Earthdesk now, if I leave the auto switching on. Anyone else notice that tendency that the MBP prefers the intel chip now more than before? And maybe like in my case, that it chooses to use the intel chip although nvidea would be needed? -

First thing that is totally different after the update is the fans..
They are responding more rapidly on temperature changes.
I experience exactly the opposite. The fans are now responding slower to CPU temperature, and don't really kick in before the CPU temp reaches 101 C. They slow down again as soon as the temperature drops to 98 C (used to bring it down to 86 before slowing down). -
Aug 27, 2010 2:52 AM in response to BigCat400by louise_b,Me neither. Standard MBP 15" i5 bought July 2010. Ridiculous - I have the model they specify in the update and am having the problem described, yet apparently "This software is not supported on your system". -
Aug 27, 2010 3:15 AM in response to louise_bby netbramha,Hi All,
I have been experiencing the same problems { Freezing, Display jagged, Safari crashes etc }. I went to the apple store here and they kept it with them for 2 weeks only to replace the hard disk and gave it back yesterday. I was hoping that the problem would not arise but I was disappointed.
Just today the system still is experiencing the same issues. The apple guys have even done the latest update of the OS.
So
1. HDD replacement does not solve problem
2. Software patch as yet does not solve the problem
If you are lucky a replacement system may give you some peace. Let me try that. Not too sure if they would replace it! Giving back my mac today.. I am really frustrated and do not what should I be doing - This is my work machine.
and Apple India support is poor!
Hoping to see some light at the end of these discussions.
Cheers, -
Aug 27, 2010 5:05 AM in response to MikhailTby Jolly Blackburn1,My ROM is BOC and Software Update let me install the firmware update.
MBP61.0057.B0C
MacBookPro6,2
I've been fortunate. Never had any freezes since buying my MBP in May.

Aug 27, 2010 8:05 AM in response to Jolly Blackburn1by mgcharlie,I´m not on my MPB i5 15" right now (I´m using it on a place without internet connection), so i can´t tell what is my ROM version, but I´ve manually downloaded the update and installed without problems. I had a couple of freezes in the first month (only pointer moves, nothing is clickable, after 10 or 15 minutes comes back to life and everything I´ve tried to do happens at once), and recently I´m experiencing this same kind of freezes, but very short ones (5 seconds max). I´ll uninstall GFXcardstatus and see what happens from now on. Apple cares about us! :~~~ <3 -
Aug 27, 2010 8:29 AM in response to Artitronby Chiefted,Ok just to be clear on this one. I am running 15in MacBook Pro; MacBookPro6,2
Graphics update didn't help.
Firmware looks like it might have solved issue. I installed it yesterday without issues
through Software Update (so I can't speak about folks having issues getting the update, didn't
someone with the 6.2 say they couldn't get the update?).
It ran fine for about an hour yesterday (since that was all the time I had to "play" with it).
When I unplugged my external monitors, I did get the "snow crash" (completely unreadable)
LCD on the MacBook Pro) but other than that its been ok so far.
Will edit this post or add new message to the thread later on today to let folks know how its
working. -
Aug 27, 2010 8:08 PM in response to Artitronby MikhailT,Guys, Apple just updated the firmware updater, it now installs on the .B0A. Check the Software Update, it'll now show up. Make sure your MBP is hooked up to the power source before installing.
