Iphone call waiting beep can be heard by other callers!

The call waiting sound comes through the phone line crystal clear, during the coversation, and the other person on the other end hears it, not only do they hear it a little, they think it's their call waiting! I've been on many calls, even with the headset on, and the other caller hears this tone.

This is very unprofessional sounding when you forward your business phone to your iphone and a 2nd call comes in and the other party hears this beep super loud! All other phones mute this out, so the other party doesn't hear this sound. I don't know this sound is heard by the other party, so loud, they have to look at their phone and get confused.

When on a phone with a client they ask, do you want to get that, or is that your call waiting or mine etc… EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Here is what I came up with. It is not a problem with the sim nor the network, but rather the firmware or the phone, some iphones you can faintly hear it some you can definitely hear it, also seems that if it were faint the more apps or the more you use the phone the tone gets louder in due time.

If I put my AT&T sim into another phone not an Iphone the beep is no longer there (I put it in into a nokia n97, n95, sony erricson, tried it with almost every phone I had). I had the AT&T store swap 3 of my sims and the genius bar swap my phone 3 times, now I’m annoyed and would rather use the phone as an Ipod. I even put in a T-Mobile sim and same issue, other person can hear the stupid call waiting beep.

I believe it’s an issue with the firmware, or actual hardware of the iphone 3gs as I don’t recall having this issue when I had the 1st gen phone.

Please someone help!

I have this issue as well on my 16gb iphone 3gs got a replacement and still the issue remained.im so confused what to believe i have heard users say its carrier issue ,an apple employee told me it was a feature but not every iphone has this (how does that make any sense) . try this its not a solution and it might not work for you but it worked a a couple of my friends. when you are on a call make sure your call volume is turned up to the loudest. this does not completely solve the issue but the other person wont be able to hear it as loud unless they really concentrate to hear it

You right. I have the same problem on my 3Gs 32g. And my previous 3Gs 16g did the same. It's not like they're hearing it from your speaker either. They hear it clearly as if they were getting the incoming 3rd call. My friend who has a 3G in Cali has the same problem as well. I'm in Philly. Maybe the problem is related more to service area than device or firmware version. I can see this being embarassing on business calls. Have you called AT&T?

I've tried calling and they seem to act like they never heard of it. This was posted multiple times on this forum, and other forums. The one is a 10 page thread about the issue.

Not surprising since Apple doesn't read or follow this forum, even though it says "Apple" on the top of the page. If you read the forum ToU, this is a user-to-user forum only.

FWIW, I don't hear load call waiting tones when on calls with other iPhones, and no one has mentioned hearing any from my end. However, I do hear faint yet distinctive tones and clicks from virtually all other phones including land lines. Although I use my iPhone for professional purposes all the time, somehow I fail to be embarrassed by receiving and ignoring new calls even when the other caller is aware. I don't see how the loudness of the tones would make any difference.

If you are highly sensitive to this, there is an easy work around that doesn't require a high end IQ, but isn't as satisfying as righteous ranting. Turn call waiting off.

Settings > Phone > Call Waiting > OFF

I updated my iPhone 3GS to the most recent firmware and set to the factory settings, then I wrote to Apple many times, I went to an Apple Store where this failure was reproduced successfully where they exchange my headset (which was in perfect condition).

Recently I had a discussion about this matter for around 35 min with the Hotline of Apple and they said there is nothing to do so far. The solution they proposed was to ask for a refund @ AT&T. Really disappointing ...

People is not supposed to know you are receiving incoming calls on your phone.

I work for a call center and when calls from agents are transferred to my phone about very sensitive information to solve issues and you have to pay a lot of attention you are facing to an UNCOMFORTABLE situation when customer notices a waiting call (with beeps) on your iPhone.

Then you believe the worst for your iPhone. Am I right?
