Not Enough Access Privileges?

Whenever I open iTunes, i get a message saying; The iTunes application could not be opened. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. I am the Administrator and the only account on this computer, and i have complete control over the computer. What should I do? I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that does nothing.

Odd.

If you right-click on the iTunes desktop icon and select "Run as administrator" does the application open?

That does some real-time scanning, so possibly it might be locking down your iTunes.

By way of experiment, try disconnecting from your network and/or the internet. Now disable all your Avast functions, and try launching iTunes again.

Do you get the same message, or does iTunes launch under those circumstances?

(Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.)

Okay. Probably not the security software then.

By way of experiment again, try creating a new user account with full administrative rights on the PC. Log out of your usual account and log into the new one.

Try launching iTunes in there. Do you get the same message in that account too? Or does the iTunes setup assistant run and eventually open iTunes for you?

(Trying to work out if something has gone amiss with folder and file permissions for your usual user account here.)

The solution for me:

1. Check your default music folder permissions. Sometimes, Windows 7 locks you out of some of your own folders.

2. If you do not have access, right click the folder and give yourself all permissions.

2.1. You can also download a little applet called "Take Ownership". This will allow you to take ownership of all sub-folders and files.

3. Start iTunes. Everything should work now. Too bad the error message is so cryptic.
