Q: Mini dvi to rca or coaxial

Hi,
I have a new macbook that used to have dvi plug and I could use the adapter to plug into rca or svideo. The plug is on the following website: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A
However, the new mac only has a mini dvi adapter, and I need to go to RCA/svideo/ or even coaxial. Can anybody recommend a product that would do this? I need to broadcast through mini dvi to coaxial cable from my macbook. Lots of adapters will work with the coaxial cable, but I'm having trouble getting it to connect to my mini dvi plug on the mac.
Thanks

MacBook Pro 2.53GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

The new MacBook has a mini-DisplayPort connector, not a mini-DVI connector.

Verify what your connector looks like. Is it the DisplayPort connector below:

Older MacBooks have this mini DVI connector:

Some newer MacBook Pros have the former connector, while others have the connector that would allow this cable:

Which display connector does your machine have?

Also update your profile. MacBook and MacBook Pro are very different machines, and shouldn't be confused for each other.

My old macbook pro had the middle and last connectors, but the newest one only has the middle connector. I guess everything is supposed to be digital now. I unfortunately have to broadcast over an analogue in house television network and I'm stuck with what I got unless I can come up with 60G's to change it.

mini-DVI to DVI, and then DVI to S-Video is what you want. Double the adapters.
Audio will have to come from the audio out of the computer via standard RCA cables, or mini-optical Toslink cables depending on your sound system support.

I haven't even considered whether the audio will work. I just picked up a cable that will connect to the one you show on your middle computer, and it doesn't work. I think it's because it's a mini dvi to vga, and then the cable I bought is also a mini dvi to vga again. I'm thinking that the best cable might be the normal dvi to vga that you show (which I already have), and then just get a straight adapter that plugs into the vga end and then goes out into rca/svideo. I won't be able to try it until Monday at work. I'll try to find it today. The question I have for you is this: does that cable you show convert the digital signal to anologue? If so, maybe this is the connector I need. What do you think? http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/external-accessories-peripherals/4060-vga-s-vide o-adapter.html

You better check that again. No MBP ever carried a Mini DVI connector. It's important to know exactly what you have because it's going to guide the recommended solution.

I have 2 connectors. The first connector is for my old macbook which used to have a DVI to video adapter. My new macbook pro no longer has that connector. http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A The only connector the new macbook pro has is Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU0NjA The problem is that I need another adapter to connect the last cable to RCA.

What you need is something like this:

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&pid=4724&seq=1&format=2

It can't be done using adapters alone. A signal format translation box is required as above.

Wow, so you don't think this adapter will work? [click here|http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.gainbery.com/Product/Adaptor /vga%2520to%2520rca.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.gainbery.com/Product/Adaptor/VGA%25 20to%2520TV%2520Converter.htm&h=480&w=640&sz=36&tbnid=1w1doweonTwROM:&tbnh=103&t bnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvga%2Bto%2Brca&usg=_E_ZKOu0XsN01iJ6Yu4b95ngQLz0=&ei=U8DlS7HdJ8P-8Abn9YmeDw&sa=X&oi=imageresult&resnum=4&ct=image&ved=0CDsQ9QEwAw]

I can't do anything until I get to work on Monday and start testing this stuff. I really hate when the new and improved macbook pro makes my job more difficult. If my adapter doesn't work, I'll have to get that converter.

That would only work on the video side if you got the right connector to go to VGA.

First you need to determine which connector you have on the Mac. You still have given us conflicting information on what machine you have. The connector and the model machine you have don't jibe according to the previous poster. So first more properly identify the Mac:

    1. Does it say MacBook, or MacBook Pro below the screen on the machine you are trying to connect to your display?

    2. If you have a Pro, what does the diagonal measurement of your interior screen measure?
    3. Look at the serial number of your machine, and tell us only the 3rd, 4th and 5th alphanumeric digit. So if it is kl9054nyZ all we need to know is 905.

That way we can determine exactly with the output is of your machine.

    It's definitely a macbook pro. The 3rd 4th and 5th numbers are 009. I hope that helps.

That MacBook Pro with a serial number 009, was made the 9th week of 2010.
That has a Mini-DisplayPort (or the first connector I showed).
To convert Mini-DisplayPort to an S-Video signal, the simplest solution is:
