Advice for long term storage of MacBook

Greetings,
I am soon embarking on a year-long trip to Asia. However, I cannot afford travel insurance that covers my macbook so I have decided to rely on my girlfriend's laptop and leave my macbook behind.

I am wondering about how best to preserve the life of the battery while I'm away. For example, should I let it charge down and store it away?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

If you don’t plan on using your notebook for more than six months, Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your notebook and battery at the proper temperature.

Hi,

As far as I know, the battery should be stored for long periods of time at about half of it's capacity. You should charge it to 100% and then drain it to 40-50%. After you shut down your macbook, store it in a place where it won't be exposed to heat or excessive humidity.

If it's not enough, you can find more information here: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html.

Then go and have a nice trip 🙂

After you return, it's best to make a full recharge cycle of the battery which means you should charge it to 100%, wait 2 hours, drain to 0, wait 6 hours and charge back to full. It should restore as much battery life as it's possible.

Cheers
