iPad Push Notifications Not Working

Hi,

I've got push notifications setup (apparently) all correctly for PktWeather, Toodledo, Scrabble, and email. However, I don't seem to be receiving any push notifications. 😟 I've checked the global push notification settings and the push notification settings in each application and they seem to be OK. Also, tried resetting the device but - no push notification. The problem remains the same on my home WiFi network and on AT&T 3G. (On my home network, I've unblocked port 5223.) What could be going wrong? What else do I need to investigate?

Cheers,

Hi,

By "global push notifications" I presume you mean in the Settings under Mail, Contacts and Calendars. There, under "Fetch New Data" is the button to turn Push on or off. It's on, right? If that's on and your email clients are all properly set up then you should be getting push notifications. If you're not, then I'm afraid something is wrong with your iPad.

I had the same problem before. Push stopped working completely, and later found out it was because the new WiFi network that I wasn't pushing for some reason. I went to the Settings app, clicked the blue arrow on my WiFi network, clicked DHCP, and under DNS I changed to it to 8.8.8.8 (Google's Public Domain). After I did that, I had a flood of Push notifications.

There may be other issues that it won't Push as well, I heard that Push fails to work when on Jailbroken devices, so also try doing a restore in iTunes to remove jailbreak.

Hope this helps!

I am also having this issue although with a twist. I can receive push notifications from any app on my WiFi network at home (Airport Extreme). Any other WiFi network and I get no push notifications or pushed emails. I've also heard people say that WiFi shuts down when the device goes to sleep and therefore ceases push notifications. This is untrue as my iPad will sit on my desk while in sleep mode and I can hear it receiving notifications. Now I know there is nothing wrong with it's settings since it works at home and I know there is nothing wrong with other WiFi networks because I will receive notifications on my iphone with them. It seems the servers can't find the iPad when it has left my home WiFi. BTW the 8.8.8.8 Google DNS did not work.
