Wireless Display On Iphone 3GS

Hi, we have 2 Iphones in the house hold and within the last couple of days I have noticed when using wireless on them that the display shows full strength for the first 5 seconds and then the signal dispaly drops out to the last bar on the display. I have tried to change the router but this never worked. I think it is something to do with the software as when I went to my local Apple Genius bar they told me to restore the phone. I have done this but still it never worked.
Can anyone help?

My understanding with how the iPhone works with WiFi is that it is never accurate when first connecting to a network in regards to signal strength. Mine does this too. Only after establishing a solid connection will it report the strength with accuracy. This also goes for when you are looking at the list of networks available, sometimes it will underestimate and sometimes it will overestimate.

When you connect to yours and it drops to one bar, do you think it is just misreporting or are you actually getting slow speeds and a poor connection?
