Syncing iPhone 3gs to computer

everytime I try to sync my iphone to my computer it starts and a few minuites freezes up during back up and says :program not responding: I want to up date my phone with the new software but can not get there to do so.

Compaq, Windows Vista, iPhone 3gs

What is freezing, the iPhone or iTunes? If iTunes is what is freezing, and you say you are on Windows, I would say to disable your firewall and security software and then check, and if that doesn't work, then I would uninstall iTunes and re-install it. Then I would look into following the information that I posted earlier on disabling firewall/virus software and if that doesn't work, then I would follow the one on removing iTunes and reinstalling it.
