How 2 view sent mail on iPad?

Hi,
I have a friend that just bought an iPad. I set his Mail up for him the other day. He just called me to ask how he can view his sent mail, on iPad's Mail app. By sent mail, I presume he means mail sent from his iPad. I didn't notice a "Sent" box the other day when I did the setup.

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Chris

With a POP account, the account's Sent mailbox will not be created until a message is successfully sent by the account with the iPad's Mail application. The same for the account's Drafts and Trash mailbox. The account's Drafts mailbox will not be created until saving a message as a draft, and the account's Trash mailbox will not be created until selecting a message for deletion.

He has sent mail from the thing, so you are saying he should be able to view sent items?
He also told me he wished there was a way to view messages he deleted. We have sent mail from
it. I sent a test mail to myself from it, but he is saying that he can't find any way to view mail he previously sent from his iPad.

To clarify, what if he was on his iPad, and wanted to see a copy of the test email I sent from his iPad the other day. How exactly do you do that.

When in the account's Inbox mailbox when the iPad is in landscape view with the account's Inbox mailbox and messaage list on the left, there should be a Mailboxes selection at the top of the Inbox mailbox message list. When in portrait mode, it will be the name of the account to select to view and select other mailboxes for the account.

Hi Kwnicols,

When in Landscape mode and looking at "Mailboxes", the sidebar is divided into two sections:
Inboxes at the top, and
Accounts below that.

If you click on any of the Inboxes it will show the messages in that inbox.

If you click on an Account below, it will change the sidebar to include the sub-boxes for that account.
Inbox
Drafts (if some exist)
Sent
Trash

So click on an Account to see its other mailboxes.

Ivan54 - Thanks for helping me to find the elusive Sent mail box on my iPad. Do you know if there is there any way that the iPad can synch in such a way that mail that I send from my iPad shows up in Sent Mail on my Apple Mail on my Macbook Pro? I suppose that I could bcc myself on all mail that I send from the iPad but that is less than elegant. TIA!

I was having the same issue and I think I found the answer by digging into the mail settings. This way, your email on a server should be stored on the server and not hidden in your ipad.

This would be for IMAP users....

Settings

Mail, Contacts, Calenders

Click on your email address on the top of the settings page

Click on the Account button at the top (should be your email address too)

Advanced Button at the Bottom

Then you can Click on "Drafts Mailbox" "Sent Mailbox" and "Deleted Mailbox" and Specify that the checked mailboxes under these are the correct folders "On the Server" and not "On My iPad"

That way, when you send an email, it uploads itself to the server rather than being saved somewhere in the depths of your ipad.

Hope this helps! I can't believe how deeply this is buried in settings!

Hi guys

Was wandering if anyone can help on something very similar.

I use hotmail as my email account and send most emails from my laptop. I also access this via my iPhone and can view all sent and received emails on this along with all my other email folders that I created. I have just bought an ipad2 and have set up my hotmail account on this too however, I can only view my inbox and trash folder. I have noticed when I sent an email from my iPad I could then view that one message in my sent folder (which appeared when the email was sent) but what I want to know is how I can get access to all of my sent box on my iPad (all emails that have been sent from my other devices aswell). And also my other email folders that I can view on my iPhone.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

My daughter has a similar problem with her iPad. I set up her Mail it all works fine. She has an Inbox, Sent Items, Draft, everything she needs but her problem is that when she sends an email from her iPad it is not stored in her Sent folder. It just dissapears. Mail sent from her MBP is kept in her sent folder, but not mail sent from her iPad. Nothing in her sent folder at all.

I've had another look at her settings but can't see a setting to could solve her problem.

I Hope someon can help.

Gary

Hi svkrzn. I solved my problem by following the instructions as detailed by Autrement above.

Go to Settings

Mail, Contacts, Calenders

Click on your email address on the top of the settings page

When the Account window opens click on Advanced

In the Advanced window opens click on Sent Mailbox

When in Sent Mailbox window, go to "On the server" and clickon Sent

It worked for me.

Cheers
