3G service internationally.

How is 3G service on the iPad made available outside the US (AT&T)? Is it SIM card? Do I need to have my iPad unlocked?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Sim card.

Except for Japan, the iPad comes unlocked.

Ipad uses Micro-SIM, and comes unlocked in most countries. Information is starting to come out from other countries on which carriers and plans are available. Some have even reported success cutting down traditional SIM Cards and putting them in the iPad. Germany is one location that I recall.
