iPad's iPod music app shows album track in wrong order during preview

I have searched and can't find an answer to this issue: my album's tracks are in the wrong order when I preview them in a playlist, but in the correct order when I view the album under "Music".

Here's an example:
* Open the iPod app
* Click on a playlist (ex. "Recently Added")
* Click on the "Albums" sort at the bottom of the screen
* Click on an album to see a track listing

In a playlist, they seem to be random (not alphabetical, not in track order) when you preview. If you follow these same steps for the default Library "Music" list, the preview show the tracks in the correct order.

FYI, the track do play in the correct order (i.e., it's not tagging issue, the same thing happens with albums from the iTunes store).

Is there some setting with the playlist itself on the computer's iTunes which affect this behavior? Is it sorting in the order they are added to iTunes?

I think you're on the right track. This is a smart playlist (one of the defaults from Apple). So there's no user intervention to create it.

My best guess is it is sorting by date added when I see it on the iPad? However, there is no way to know this on the iPad.

Any suggestions on how to update the smart playlist to sort in a non-default way to see if that changes how the playlist behaves on the iPad?

The playlist are customizable in iTunes and the songs will be in the order that you arranged them in when you initially created the playlist.

You can arrange a playlist order based off of song titles, artists, time, genre, etc. by clicking the top of the column info. The songs in the playlist will arrange accordingly based off which column you selected for the order.

Music in your library will be in order no matter what.

Hi Harry,

I've noticed the same problem with Smart Playlists on the iPad. I've come to the conclusion that it's a bug with the iPad's iPod app. No matter how I sort the Smart Playlists on iTunes on the computer or on the app, the order of the tracks of Albums when viewed through the playlist is wrong. It doesn't matter if I sort by Album, Artist or whatever.

Thankfully, the track orders are okay when the album is played or when viewed through the Music tab. It's still annoying, though. My solution is to not use Smart (or Stupid, haha) Playlists on the iPad. Wish I had a better answer for you...

Someone let me know if I'm wrong, or if it gets fixed.
