Just recently got this MBP. Trying to hook up a Screenwriter 4 Xante printer to it. I had it hooked up to a iMac G3 500mhz It worked fine. Have not been able to get my printer to work yet. Use for my screenprinting business. Had to go thru appletalk on the G3. Trying to keep from paying 60 dollar tech charge for help. Only port available is ethernet. Has USB but only for PC.
Any ideas?
According to the manual for this printer found at
http://www.xante.com/support/sw4/ the Xante ScreenWriter 4 requires AppleTalk to be active for it to function. AppleTalk is not used in Mac OS X version 10.6.
I suspect you are not going to be able to use this printer with your new MacBook Pro. You might want to confirm this by calling Xante.
The exact thing happened to me. Replaced an old iMac with a new iMac in a screen printing company.
Didn't realize that Appletalk was a thing of the past. So now the old iMac is continuing to host the Xante. The posted answer got me out of a jam last night, with deadlines looming and the machines not talking to each other. Thank you.
I was able to print, with the same configuration, Xante Screenwriter 4 and iMac running 10.6. I just turn off DHCP on the printer, and connect the printer via USB.
Voila!!!
