OSX Startup errors: kCGErrorFailure

I have a working copy of 10.6.3 and get these errors after the loginwindow has been successfully started:

11.05.10 11:59:07 WindowServer[59] kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.
11.05.10 11:59:07 com.apple.WindowServer[59] Tue May 11 11:59:07 narsarsuaq.local WindowServer[59] <Error>: kCGErrorFailure: Set a breakpoint @ CGErrorBreakpoint() to catch errors as they are logged.

Is anyone familiar with this error and could tell me how it can be corrected?

After a clean install of OSX 10.6.3 and installing the combo update and all updates the error still exists during boot and show up in the console, see below. I have a relatively new Macbook Pro (version 5,3 15"). It looks like it is either a OSX problem or a hardware failure?

Hi there

I would like to know if your problem got solved in any way. I'm in the same **** as you are/were
I have the same macbook pro as you too.

I'm on 10.6.2 fresh install.
I will try on 10.6.3...but after reading your post in out of hope...

I'm starting to think its a hardware failure.
Is it ?

Same error on the Log and the startup time is about 10mns. Yope... that long!

I tried the following:
1. Permissions repair using Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility then select the Startup Drive (the disk where the Snow Leopard hides...) and click Repair Disk Permissions. Most errors results and fixes are to be "safely ignored."
2. Verify Disk while you are still at the Disk Utility; won't hurt.
3. Make sure that the system knows where the startup drive really is by going to System Preferences/Startup Disk and pick the drive where it's really hiding.
4. Restart the system in Safe Mode. That's holding Shift on bootup... it does fix a few things apparently.
5. Complete Hardware Test. Hold D on bootup and follow the prompts. A complete HW check takes about an hour on a new iMac.
6. Resetting PRAM and NVRAM by holding Option-Cmd-P-R on boot. Remember this one as an "Optional-Cardio-Pulmonary-Resuscitation" to an Apple machine.
7. Reinstall from original DVD and run updates.
8. At a Terminal session prompt, type: "sudo chown root:admin /".
9. Checked the bootup log using the Console and found:Could not find: com.apple.ReportCrash.Self, Error. Followed the steps explained here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=192563
10.... I'll let you know if a solution is found.
I hope that this collection of solutions might be helpful in relieving someone's suffering and get the satisfaction of a quick bootup.

... Problem fixed.
10. Changed the User Icon from a Photobooth picture to a nice Snow Flake icon... and Voila *. It boots as fast as new!
(*) Fine print: I have an external hard drive plugged into the iMac through a USB cable and the drive was turned off... the Leopard could not settle with the idea of knowing of the existence of another den nearby that it could not see and would not start! If the wire is unplugged or if the drive is powered on the Leopard is all happy; it can see the alternate den.

I'm seeing this issue on a Mid 2010 13" MBP running 10.6.4.

I removed the /Library/Caches and /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folders in single user mode and the machine booted successfully and in under 1 minute.

I'll be running a looping restart on the machine to verify that the issue is resolved, but it looks like something either gets damaged or otherwise messed up in the /Library/Caches folder. I removed the SystemConfiguration folder mostly out of habit.
