Does the Ipad 3G have a GPS?

Hi, I plan on purchasing an Ipad any day. I read that one of the features that the Ipad 3G has is a built in GPS, is this true? Is it just like the Garmin? Can I use it to take me to my destination? Do I have to pay monthly for the GPS feature? Any info is greatly appreciate

If you want turn-by-turn directions, you'll need a third-party app such as that from TomTom. I haven't seen any that have been updated for the iPad yet, but the iPhone versions should work.

Your approximate location is determined using available information from local Wi-Fi networks (if you have Wi-Fi turned on). iPad Wi-Fi + 3G also uses cellular networks and GPS to determine your location. If you have both WiFi and 3G turned off, the GPS receiver can still locate your position, but it will take a minute or two longer. The A in A-GPS refers to the time it takes for GPS to resolve your position.

A company called Skyhook Wireless maps WiFi and cell tower locations it scans. Apple uses this to help your GPS locate itself quicker. Here's how it works: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/inaction/apple.php
