Colors suddenly super-saturated

Sudden change to my Imac 20" display today. Colors - desktop, web browser, documents, etc. are super saturated, while white colors are washed out. The brightness/darkness settings on keyboard don't help. Open windows are whiter than normal, eg. opening hard drive, application folder icons super saturated, normal blue folders are somewhat washed out, as well as the background,

When I restart, or start up, when the desktop comes up, the colors are normal for a few seconds, then switch to super-saturated.

Reading on screen individual letters look to be of different colors, i.e, instead of black, they're blue, orange, purple, etc. Even in the words I'm typing in here.

Anyone have this problem? Is my display going? I've shut down to let it rest, but it still persists. The weird thing is when I start up, it's normal for a few seconds, then the colors shift.

Anyone? Thanks.

Wow! You certainly made my day! Thanks so much!!

I'm curious, how did this happen? The Display was always on Black on White, but dragging the slider more back to "Normal" fixed it.

(Just answered my own question...hitting apple/. at the finder level. (was trying to quit a scan yesterday, probably not in the scan window when I hit apple/.))

Whatever ..... thanks again, Niel
