iPad Email Attachments showing up as empty/missing icon question mark

So this is a very odd bug that is happening on both the iPad and iPhone os, albeit it occurs more on the iPad.

When I sent PDF attachments that shows up on my normal apple mail (as a preview PDF inside the email content), it is showing up as a empty icon in the ipad mail even though iPad mail does note it has an attachment with the paperclip mark.

Keep in mind my email acct is synced over imap on the iPad, iPhone, and apple mail. The pdf attachment opens in apple mail without problems.

This problem also occurs on my iPhone but it is less often.

I hope a described the problem well. If anyone like to see the email for themselves contact me at uunders@gmail.com and i I'll forward you the email with the PDF attachment.

Greetings,

That all works correctly here - I sent test messages to and from the iPad, iPhone, Exchange Mail, Gmail, and Apple mail. I haven't seen this on an iPhone, or an iPad.

I originated one from my work Exchange Mail, and then one from my iPhone, bounced them all around, and the PDF was there, and would open as it should each time.

Has it worked, consistently, correctly before, or has it been an issue ever since you got your iPad?

Cheers,
M.

It didin´t help...

I made a complete no iPAd, not from the backup. First it work correctly, showing the pdf as attachment. Then I installed my apps, still everything fine.
Then I synchronized some music and photos and suddenly, when I went back to mail, the pdf again was shown as picture.

I removed all photos, music, alls apps. No solution, pdf is now again shown as picture 😟

I have a similar issue.
I installed the iBook update to check out the pdf feature. I found out that in order for the pdf button to show up you need a pdf in your library.
My brotther also has an iPad but did not have any pdf files to play with, so I sent him one. He was able to open it by double clicking the file in the email attachment. In the upper right hand corner it gave him the option to send the file to iBooks.
When he sent the attachement back to me, even though there was a paper clip on the message and a line indicating that the file was attached it was either bland or like this <trisport.pdf>.
Hope someone gets this figured out.

Same for me guys, iPad 3.2 when receiving email with attachments, no matter what kind of attachment (pdf, tiff...), I can only see the attachment on the body of the message, than I can only save it as an image (even if the file is a PDF file). When I forward the message, the receiver cannot see the attachment. I have several email accounts configured (yahoo, hotmail and traveler) and all of them work in the same way. I hope Apple will fix this issue, it's now making me very disappointed !! P.S: I do not have STANZA installed (never installed).

For those who have removed stanza and still do not view pdf attachment in email :
after having deinstalled stanza, i've linked my ipad with pc. I've downloaded stanza again from itunes (app store on pc) and have installed it on ipad with synchro. Have switched off my ipad. Turned it on again, have removed stanza from itunes, then syncro again. Have restarted my ipad (no lose of data) keeping pressed the home and power keys for about 10 seconds (keep pressing after seeing the sliding turn off button). After reset, try send an email to your own email account with a pdf attached. Now you should be able to view the icon, instead of the preview.
It worked to me. Ciao all
Tommy

Having the same problem as described with both iPad and iPhone. Interesting that if I forward the .mac/.me email (unreadable on ipad) to another email address, the .pdf file comes through unscathed. That suggests to me that the file is there and ok - there is just something in the email program preventing us from seeing it.

For some reason I feel like the new format of the Apple online mail might have something to do with it.

I have set a few iPads up for clients and they love them. However, they have come to me with the issue of being unable to forward pdf and basic image files. Email is run through and exchange server.

When emails with PDFs are received on an iPad they can be viewed but when they are forwarded the attachments do not show up for the new recipients. This is a big problem because it eliminates one of the primary functions of the device. Stanza reader is not installed on a single one of the iPads and never was installed, so it can not be the problem. I have not seen this problem on other devices yet, just the 3G iPads I provided for clients. I would greatly appreciate some advice that does not involve removing stanza.

As other Users have said, the attachments on the iPad show up as rendered images inside the email even though stanza is not installed. Additionally when they are forwarded the recipients see them as small question marks at the bottom of the page. Are there any other programs that may cause this problem? Perhaps Quickoffice? This is installed on both of the clients iPads. Does anyone else with these problems have it installed? Or is this an Apple mail issue?

I am having the same problem. When I send a PDF to the iPad sometimes it will show as a downloadable link and other times I get the paper clip icon showing that I have an attachment but no DL link. I can open the same email in Goodreader and the PDF will download and is viewable.

I can also check the same email on my desktop and the PDF is there. I haven't been able to figure out why some emails work correctly and others don't.

I hope there is a fix coming soon for this problem.

I am having the same problem. Can't forward any type picture in e-mails. Recipient
gets message that no previewer is available to open this file. This only occurs when forwarding e-mails from the ipad.

Someone please help. This was the primary reason I purchased this for my wife. As of now she can't share (forward pictures contained in e-mails) with her friends.
