help. my built-in mic stopped working.

Hi, I need some help.
My built in mic worked when I first got my computer. Then stopped a month or 2 after.
I am trying to Skype with family overseas and no matter what i do in preferences adjusting volume- (it's not on mute) i get no sound.
I can hear people but no one can hear me.
any adice.
