Clearing the downloads folder

Clearing the downloads folder

This may be an obvious question, but if I clear out my download folder does that delete them permanently or can I still access the document or whatever from the program they were created in?

Mac Book, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

You must copy or move the docs to some other location on your drive. If you just drag them to the trash, they will be permanently erased.

Files stored in the Downloads folder can be deleted. As long as the applications have been installed in your Applications folder there will be no impact on your usage.
