Texting with the iPad

Hello,

For an iPad 3G is there a way to text someone who is on an iPhone rather than send them an email? Thanks.

I have an app on my iPhone called "pingchat" and I love it. The person you are trying to reach has to download it too but it works great. I think it cost like .99 cents and I can text anyone else who has this app for no additional cost. I was planning on trying to download it to my ipad as well once it arrives.
