MacBook Pro Boot Camp Sound Audio Drivers Do Not Work with Miscrosoft Vista
I installed Vista via Boot Camp on my new 15" i7 MacBook Pro. After full MS Vista patching and Apple Boot Camp driver installation, the sound/audio does not work.
After some searching on the net, I've noticed that this is perhaps a widespread problem. Are there any solutions or an indication of when this will be fixed?
2010 MacBook Pro 15" i7,
Mac OS X (10.6.3),
Boot Camp with MS Vista
Not presently. I'm using a 17" Late 2009 MBP with Win7 installed. At home I have installed XP, Vista, and Win7 on a 2006 Mac Pro. However, there's no sound defect as an extant bug that I'm aware of. Of course with a new i5/7 perhaps one has surfaced.
I would start with the assumption that there's a problem with the Vista installation. because there's no connection to OS X when booted into Windows. I would simply remove the Windows volume using Boot Camp Assistant and then start again from scratch. If you have Win7 I'd recommend that over Vista. If you aren't a frequent Windows user, then consider XP which is slimmer and faster than Vista (as is Win7.)
There's a long history of audio system driver problems with the MacBook Pro after 2007 and different versions of Windows matters. A cursory search of this forum shows that -- unfortunately without any solutoins I'm currently looking through this links suggestions:

Reloading Vista or switching to a different MS OS is not really a reasonable solution to a sound driver problem.
There may be a long history of complaints and posts on these forums, but that is certainly not proof of an extant bug. All people do on these forums is complain about something. An extant bug is something reported to Apple and reproducible by Apple. The very fact that I've not seen the problem on any of my computers thzt have run Windows via Boot Camp, Parallels, VM Fusion, VirtualBox, and Q suggests the issue may not be a bug.
Furthermore, the link you referenced is unrelated to the problem you've reported here. It's related to XP, not Vista, and to using a Cirrus device, not simple sound.
Of course you are free to assume what you want. Everyone's free to rail at the darkness or turn on a light. Take your pick.
I'm really not interested in arguing with you about the definition of a bug or your opinion of these forums. I never said it was a bug. It doesn't work on my machine, and it doesn't work on other people's machine. I'm glad it works on your, completely different model and OS, machine. I'm sorry that you don't appreciate some of the people's posts here.
The link I provided does reference Vista, and boot camp has loaded a Cirrus device driver -- perhaps incorrectly.
Whatever. I provided you with a possible solution that you are free to ignore. Any Cirrus sound driver will not work on your computer which uses different hardware requiring a different driver that should be installed when the Boot Camp drivers are installed from your Snow Leopard DVD.
"Any Cirrus sound driver will not work on your computer which uses different hardware requiring a different driver that should be installed when the Boot Camp drivers are installed from your Snow Leopard DVD."
See -- now that is helpful! Thank-you! So why is Boot Camp installing the wrong (Cirrus) driver? Which driver should it be installing? Where do I get the right driver?
When you mean no sound, do you get the volume slider but nothing comes out or do you not get the volume slider at all?
Go to control panel, sound (you might need to switch to classic view to see the one im on about), then the "sounds" tab, there should be audio clips that you should be able to play, if the laptop has picked up the sound controller in it.
If you cant play these (greyed out) then the driver isnt installed properly.
There should be a update option in the boot camp program that is installed in your vista partition, run that, and if it fails you can try what is below.
Try going into device manager, uninstall/remove the drivers under the heading "sound, game and audio controllers" reboot the machine and it should install them back in again.
If it doesnt and asks for a disc, then they'll be on your max os x disc, but not sure you can install drivers individually this way. might have to reinstall the boot camp drivers from scratch.
Ive had this proplem on PC's (not macs) with drivers from manufacturer of the machines not working after windows updates. Fixed by using drivers from the audio controller manufacturer. But dont think its the same issue you are having.
I have just installed Vista 64 on a 17" MBP i7. During Vista install, the audio was working. After installing Boot Camp drivers, the audio no longer works. Does anyone how to tell which audio hardare is installed?
Try going to Device Manager. Then click on the Cirrus Sound Card, go to Driver on the tab thingy. And update driver and then "Browse My Computer For Driver Software" if you see it then Let Me Pick From A List Of Device Drivers On My Computer. Lastly, highlight High Definition Audio Device. Next, then you're done.
Voila, sound problem done. Works on my MacBook Pro
In reality, recreating the boot camp partition and reinstalling the OS is a valid solution to the problem.
First of all, you are likely going to spend much more time trying to troubleshoot this problem that it would take to perform the aforementioned solution.
Second, you can answer an important question. Can you reproduce the issue?
I believe I am having the same sound problem you had. Last week, I bought a MacBook-Pro and installed Window Vista 32bit on BootCamp. Window complaint it could not load Cirrus Logic audio driver due to error. I did update window through window update feature. Could you let me know what is specific window update that you solved this issue? Thanks.
Sir_moon, for what it is worth, my sound problem was resolved with the most recent Vista update from Microsoft. After the latest patch, my sound works fine now.
