How many CPUs should Activity Monitor show for i7?

When I use Activity Monitor to check on my CPU usage on my MBP, Core 2 Duo, I can see 2 CPU usage, one for each core I assume. However, when checking of same on my iMac Core i7, I can only see one. Shouldn't I see 4 separate CPU usage since it has 4 cores? Is my iMac only using one of the cores? If so, how can I make the other 3 active?

Thanks,

Benson

Hello Graham,

I have download Marcus Bresink's hardware monitor as per your suggestion, I can see a total of 8 cores, 4 real and 4 hyper-threading. So there must be a bug in the current OS X Hardware Monitor not showing proper info on the Core i7 processor. I can at least now rest easy knowing that all the cores are working on my iMac.

thanks,

Benson

Hi Graham,

don't get confused.

The iMac i7 is a quad-core processor with Hyper-Threading resulting in 8-cores to be shown (4 real and 4 HT).

The MacBook Pro i7 you seem to have according to your signature is a dual-core processor with Hyper-Threading resulting in 4-cores to be shown (2 real and 2 HT).
