Fix: Home sharing error 3150 when copying

I had been having a great deal of trouble with Home Sharing allowing me to see both library's, play both libraries from either computer; but not copy music from one library to another and I finally found a fix that worked for me.

You NEED an internet connection ... It will NOT allow you to copy tracks from one library to another if you don't have an internet connection available to BOTH computers... Simple

2010 MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3), , 2010 Mac Mini, iPhone 3G (3.1.2), iPod Classic 120gb

If you'd quote where in that kb article it informs users of the need for both Mac's to have an internet connection before it will allow transferring any media I'd greatly appreciate it as I've now re-read it and still can not see anything to this effect.

i agree it doesn't say specifically *internet connection* in the KB.

my guess is that Apple takes it for granted that we are continuously online and all machines on our local networks are thus always connected to the internet.

i also agree with your assessment that, in order to move content via home sharing, it seems necessary to be online.

thank you so much for clearing this up for me. I have been having nightmares over the same issue. Have a couple of mac and a mac pro - they are not networked so are never all online at the same time. Consequently none of which seem to be speaking properly to each other and none are sharing the complete library with each other. It's weird. The mac I purchased a movie on doesn't want to share this with any other mac or download it onto my ipod either. Have given up and resigned myself to only being able to watch this particular film on the laptop, not be able to watch it on my ipod (which was the reason why I bought it on Itunes in the first place) or burn it to DVD.

Internet went out at the house today. Started getting errors with Home Sharing on my home computer when trying to access it from AppleTV.

Got the error in itunes, something to the effect of "unable to turn on home sharing error -3150".

My local network is just fine without the connection out to the Internet. All my computers can communicate and file share without any issues (just not outside internet access)

Boggles my mind why iTunes would require that there be Internet access in order for HOME sharing to work.
