Ipad pages - Wrapping text around a picture with flexible/adjustable points

In pages, how does one wrap text around a graphic - like Steve Jobs showed around the giraffe's head and neck?

I have only been able to do this as a square... Is there a way to adjust wrap points dynamically in pages for iPad?

It says, in the Pages help site, that if you have "images with irregular outlines" then you can get that effect (in the "Getting Started with Pages" document that came with Pages, you can see that demo you're talking about on the second to last page of that document).

However, how or from where you get such irregularly outlined images, I confess I don't know. But there's no way to get that effect with images you get out of photo albums on your iPad or any of the other images in that "Getting Started" doc. They're all just rectangular no matter what shape the image may be inside them. I think Photoshop let's you create such irregular outlined images using what they call "clipping paths," masks and certain image file types. But it's all rather complicated, it seems.

So it can be done, but it's a product of the image file itself, not so much Pages' wrapping features, which, as you have found, are quite modest. As you know, Word allows this in their wrapping options when you set wrapping points. Unfortunately, it doesn't carry through into Pages when the document is imported.

I got this to work, using Photoshop, create an image and then select the layer the image is on, from the menu choose layer, add vector mask - reveal all. Using the pen, draw around your shape to make a closed shape. Delete the background layer. Save the image as a .PNG and email to your iPad. Go to email, press and hold on image, copy, paste into your Pages document. Click image, click information, choose wrap around, play with sytle.

That's neat. I'm glad you got it to work. I haven't yet felt the necessity to buy Photoshop because I really don't have that kind of money and I'd need a really good reason to spend it. I mean, I'd love to have it but until someone buys it for me, I'm stuck with Paintshop pro, which is really a pretty good editor for sixty bucks. It may even do this too, I don't know. My guess is that you need something more powerful like Photoshop. But it's still not a compelling enough reason for me to drop 400 plus bills. Oh well. Life, even a poor one, goes on!

Bringing this thread back to life. I've just imported a pages document from my computer to the iPad pages application. There were some images that couldn't be displayed and fixed those errors. The only real issue that I'm running into is that the text is no longer wrapping around objects within the document. Here is a link to a PDF file of the document I'm working with:

http://www.ajnealeyracing.com/AJNR/2011Patron_GT3_Challenge_by_Yokohamafiles/2011%20GT3%20Challenge%20Sponsorship%20Proposal%20-%20Fall%202010.pdf

I have already clicked on the wrap feature within the app with "around object" selected and move with text "on"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Take care,
AJ

Any idea if photoshop will be released for iPad2? Or if there are other image editing software apps with the capability of cropping to irregular edges I'd like to be able to do what you're describing without having to go to my main computer, mess with the photo in PS, send an email to my iPad, then save and paste into pages.

Seems awfully convoluted to me - that's all! Thanks for the post!

I am having the same exact problem and have not been able to figure out e cause, or a workaround. I was wondering if you received any further feedback on this.

Trying to continue work on a Pages'09 brochure prepared from a template on my MacBook Pro, moved to my iPad via iCloud.

Note, when I move brochure back to the MacBook via iCloud, the image, which didn't cause the text to wrap around it despite the proper settings having been clicked on the iPad, DID cause the text to wrap around it when moved back to the MacBook. So it's as if the iPad successfully made the changes, but just didn't display them. (Further supporting this view, when I re-re uploaded the document to iCloud, the formatting again disappeared on my iPad.

It is possible to do this on the iPad itself although not very easily.

You need to use the Mask function by double clicking the image so that the Mask button appears. Adjust the sides of the box so that only part of the picture with a small amount of white is showing.

Paste the original picture onto the sheet again and choose a different part of the picture as above.

You will need to repeat this several times and move the pictures together like a jigsaw puzzle to create the whole picture.

Group all of the pictures by pressing one finger on one part and use another finger to select the remaining parts.

Release the first finger and you can then move all of the images as one.

PS You will need to regroup them each time you want to move the picture.
