Q: Powerbook 180c - boot to external monitor

Hi,
I have a dormant PB 180c that I haven't booted in years. It had a flaky display connection that I attempted to troubleshoot when I last used it, but found a couple trace breaks in the flexible cable to the display and dumped it in a box.

I want to check the HD for files before scrapping it, but when I power it up with an ext monitor, it shows up as an extended monitor with nothing on the desktop but the pattern - I can even move the select arrow around. Anyone know if I can force it to boot to the external monitor?

Thanks in advance,
George
