Safari Error Domain Error 1

What does this mean? I can't seem to find a decent explanation of it. I've been getting the error message on all downloads over the last fortnight, meaning I haven't been able to update iTunes, general OS security patches, Nuendo updates etc. I can't think of any changes I've made during that time period that could be causing it, and my wireless signal is strong.

It's really annoying as I need to download the latest security license software for Nuendo to be able to use it (I'm on N4 and the disc license software wont run on Snow Leopard as it predates the OS) so I can't record properly until I get this fixed so I'd really appreciate some insight into what the error codes mean and how to fix them. Many thanks guys.

I'm running a 15" 2.53GHz Intel MacBook Pro, with 4 GB RAM, Snow Leopard preinstalled, and using airport to connect wirelessly. It's a newish laptop (about two months old).

trashing the plist failed, and repairing permissions also failed. Gonna try connecting straight to broadband and see if that works, thanks.

Any idea what the different error messages (error1 error2 etc) actually mean though? I keep getting error 1 - it appears to download okay but then it wont open, saying there's a corruption. Thanks.
