CD's created on Macbook kill my PC

Any CD that I create on my new Macbook causes an immediate freeze up of my desktop PC running XP. I get a blue screen error, Bad Pool Header, and I have to restart the PC. It will not reboot with said disk still in the tray. All operations of PC drive appear ok. It reads, it burns, diagnostics say it's ok, microsoft says I have all the latest updates, disks burned on the PC work fine in the Mac. Apple Care thought maybe the drive was writing some bad auto start data that was freaking out the PC? Suggested I take it to the Genius Bar and have them look at it. They're completely bamboozled too. Tried one of the disks in a Mac running Windows and it works ok there. Any ideas?

As it's blue screening, you need to analyze a memory dump to figure out what's wrong.
If you want to share one with me, I would be happy to take a look. As you're using XP, it's likely you're setup for minidumps. They are located in "C:\Windows\Minidump". Grab one from the latest crash, and send it with a free service for sending files (e.g. www.senduit.com). Post the link here and I'll be happy to give you my two cents (for free) on what's causing your crash.

That's all Greek to me so anything would be helpful. Site says that link only lives for 30 minutes so I hope you're here and looking. Thanks

Thankfully, I'm just winding down Sunday night and saw the e-mail notification come through. 🙂

I took a look at the minidump and the culprit is memory corruption from a Symantec (aka Norton) Antivirus driver: SRTSP.SYS
The a process from a program called Sonic DLA was interacting with the Symantec Antivirus driver when it crashed.

I would uninstall Sonic DLA first and see if the crashes go away. If they don't, temporarily try another antivirus program (e.g. Avast, AVG).

Getting rid of the Sonic DLA program did the trick. Hooray! I can now copy data out of my Mac and use it on the PC...How novel! Thank you so much! On my PC I used to be able to burn data to CDs without closing the disk. I backed up my Quicken files every few days this way. I think the Sonic DLA may have been what allowed me to do that. Now when I do a burn the only way to get more data onto the disk is to reformat and start anew. This apparently is the way of the world on the Mac as well. Is this just the way it is? Thanks again.

Sonic DLA was the software that enabled you to incrementally write files to CDs.

Personally, I would make the very small (<$10) investment in the purchase of a USB flash drive to backup those Quicken files.

If you take the more perilous journey of looking for a replacement to Sonic DLA, I recall that Nero (www.nero.com) used to make a comparable software program called InCD.

Quite a while ago I switched from using CDs for the Quicken backup to a Zip drive. Yes, it may be 10 years old, but it works flawlessly. Just started using "Dropbox" so I'm now backed up to my Mac, which in turn is backed up via Time Machine to an external drive. Thanks for your help. Guess there's more than just farmers in Iowa! 😉

It would appear that removing Sonic DLA from my computer (as suggested by amgqmp1) fixed my problem. There doesn't seem to be any problem with Mac formatting being compatible with my PC. I can now just drop a blank CD into the Mac and it comes out compatible with either computer as its message box says it should. Thank you for your help.
