Disk Too Slow error - Ram query

Since upgrading to Logic 9 from 8, we have been encountering the Disk too slow on record error. (many othr niggles too but wont go into that here!) We never had a problem before, even when recording 24 tracks simultaneously with various plugins in use, but now, even recording 1 track is causing intermittent problems with the same settings.
We have followed all tips on forums and have determined that by changing the I/O buffer size to 64 (from 32), and/or disabling enable software monitoring option seems to resolve the issue. Both have implications though, causing either latency delay in headphones, or inability to use numerous live monitor mixes.

My query here is, we currently have a 2.8Ghz Quad Cord mac pro with 8GB ram, and will increasing the Ram (up to 16GB) make any difference to stop the record error, or is just down to the processors themselves?

I'm also presuming that Logic 9 requires more processing power than 8 and im not the only one having such problems?

Many Thanks

Mac Pro Quad Core 2.8Ghz, Mac OS X (10.6.3), 8Gb Ram
