iPod Nano 4G & Speakers
To anyone that knows a thing about iPods...
I have an iPod Nano 4G, paired with an iCraig AM/FM/iPod boombox (Model #: CMA3011), along with a Curtis iMode AM/FM Clock radio (Model #: IP200). Maybe someone out there at Apple can help me, as I'm lost. First of all, my iPod works wonderfully with its own earphones (and speakers that connect to the earphone jack), however, these two docks are a different story. Neither stereo dock will charge the iPod. (I receive an "Unsupported: Charging not supported with this accessory" screen when the dock in the stereo detects the iPod). However, both stereos will play the iPod. (The iCraig one, however, sounds airy, as if the music were in surround sound. It's usually dependent on individual song, but for most, the words are very hard to hear; or the sound is just plain bad). The AM/FM radio is OK. There's only 3 controls on the whole machine. (volume wheel, source select switch for iPod/Aux-Off/AM/FM, in that order; and the tuning wheel for the radio (analog with digital readout). For the iMode clock radio, the sound is way better. The two front speakers are small, but there's a big speaker on the bottom of the radio (I guess that's for bass). For EQ's, the iCraig has none, and the iMode clock radio has 4 presets: Rock, Pop, Classical, Jazz). I have a ton of songs in my iTunes library, and on the iPod itself, so I don't bother with assigning EQ presets, so I just leave the iPod EQ off. Of the two, the iMode clock radio is the better sounding set of speakers.
Now, I also have an issue with the dock. My 4G Nano will fit the dock, but neither radio comes with a compatible dock insert (I think the newest Nano that either set of speakers included was for the 2G Nano, so while it will fit the hole, it's not an exact match; and the dock insert that came with the iPod will only fit the iCraig boombox.
I've often wondered if some of these issues was because of my iPod firmware... which is old. Could updating it help with the sound quality when docked on speakers?
Any help? Please do let me know.
Thanks.
