Apple Store REFUSES To Take Cash For iPad

I am from Jamaica, I will be visiting the US in July buy an iPad. And i saw ABC News this morning that Apple's sales policy states that the iPad must be purchased by credit or debit card and *"They said, 'Sorry, we don't take cash."* it is true? I don't have any credit card... only cash. tell me if you have any problems with that?

I must admit, it is admittedly rather odd that a telecommunications company has the inability to have a telecommunications device to render MONEY that isn't BY CHANCE direct debit, however, it's not the end of the world and is just a shop.

The benefit of purchasing from a card is that your purchase is productively and digitally logged.

Logically thinking I believe the reason Apple has decided to NOT take cash for the iPad is because of the high demand and the cash on hand (in stores) that may result in a security risk. If true, then I applaud Apple for thinking of there employee's security and possible risk to patrons.

20 sales of low end iPad would be around 10K
20 sales of high end iPad would be around 18K

That's a lot of dough on hand for the sale of one item.....and we ALL know they sell much much more.

Apple's primary reason for not allowing cash transactions on iPad has to do with limiting secondary marketing of the product, and limiting individual purchases to two ipads. If they allowed cash purchase, it would be impossible to enforce any limits, and a Gray Market would develop for the iPad, although one seems to be developing anyway.

I bought 3....no limit with me

1-32GB WiFi daughter
1-32GB WiFi+3G son
1-64GB WiFi+3G me

You can probably purchase the iPad with cash at Best Buy.

It has already been mentioned in this thread, there are signs in the store and the policy does indeed say a credit card is needed.

I find it interesting that a store in the states (any retail store, this has nothing to do with Apple) can tell customers that they can't use the national currency to purchase products.

The bill I'm looking at says "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private".

I can sort of understand the practicalities (lots of cash on hand, verification of bills, etc), but if I went into any store, I'd expect to be able to use cash...
