sync iPad with computer and iCal

When I sync my iPad and iPhone with iCal on my MAC I end up with duplicate entries in the calendar - its very frustrating but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any adivce?

Are you accessing a MobileMe account on your iPad?

If so and you are syncing calendars over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPad, do you also have sync iCal calendars selected under the Info tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes?

If yes, you don't need to do both, which duplicates the calendars and calendar events on your iPad.

You're welcome.

If you are accessing a MobileMe account with your iPhone and syncing contacts and calendars over the air with your MM account on your iPhone, this applies to contacts and calendar events.

Email account settings for a selected account or accounts can be transferred from your computer to the iPhone's Mail application via iTunes sync process, and this needs to be done once. The same does not apply to email account settings and note. This applies to the options for syncing data over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, which is Contacts, Calendars, and Bookmarks.

If you have deselected Sync Contacts and Sync Calendars under the Info tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply, on your iPad go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Select your MobileMe account.

Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will erase all contacts downloaded from and being kept synchronized with your MobileMe online address book. A prompt will also be provided to save the contacts locally on your iPhone. Decline this prompt.

This will not erase the contacts on your iPad synced direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.

Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select.

This will get rid of the duplicates.

Repeat the same for Calendars on your iPad.
