Aug 1, 2010 10:53 AM in response to Catfish Soupby bmintzer7,After many days of frustration, I finally was able to resolve this issue. I called Apple and because I have AppleCare, they were willing to help me with this problem. It took talking to several people, moving up the seniority ladder, until finally the problem was solved by the iTunes account people. They had to go in and manually reset my billing info. Problem solved. I suggested that they take a look at these forums because so many people are having this problem. So call 'em up, there is a fix. Don't give up hope. -
Aug 6, 2010 8:12 AM in response to Catfish Soupby passionate247,I called apple support and they said that itunes no longer receives debit/check cards only credit cards. That's why it won't take it and that from now on I'll have to go into stores, buy itunes gift cards and use it that way. Such crap! Ugh -
Aug 8, 2010 11:30 PM in response to Catfish Soupby vodanh,uh, i tried on the citibank debit card, invalid code.
so i thought i'd try on the Westpac Visa CC, worked, then try Mastercard Debit Cards and it work.
and now try back on the citibank debit card...invalid,
so i gather apple dont' take VISA Debit Card. -
Aug 9, 2010 8:34 AM in response to vodanhby Marcus Daniel,I did finally get my card to work after weeks of back and forth. And it is a debit/check card, not a credit card. I had to have the addresses double checked to make sure I entered them by the letter and the bank had to enable the card's credit function properly. My repeated attempts at blocked it as well. But it is working now. -

Aug 10, 2010 9:10 PM in response to Catfish Soupby HeyNaomi,There is a "None" option. This fixed the sec. code error I was having when signing into my new iPhone 4. If you go to Settings, Store then click on your credit card (after signing in with password) then click on first option, which I think is "Visa, mc, etc.". Scroll passed all options & you'll see "none"... -
Aug 11, 2010 11:10 PM in response to HeyNaomiby rcyoaxn,Here's how I got it to work. I had my bank account set to avoid overdraft fees, and I finally noticed that whenever my account was low, it said my security code was invalid. But when I transferred more money into my account it worked just fine. Weird, huh? ^_^ -
Sep 13, 2010 1:35 PM in response to Catfish Soupby spiralof5,Yes. Check your bank account and how much money you have. If you don't have more than a dollar, you can't even download free apps.
In my case, I'm .99 usd. 2 more pennies in my account and it would probably work again. -
Sep 15, 2010 1:25 AM in response to Catfish Soupby docwatson431,I'm glad I'm not the only one, but my problem is a little different and it started after I upgraded to an iPhone 4. I can update and download free apps without a problem, but when I tried to purchase new apps or music I received a message card declined. I checked my cc information and found that the security code space was blank. I checked the card number and entered the security code (I have been using the same cc card for the past 3 years without a problem) and attempted the purchase again and got the same message. I checked the info again and found the security code space blank again. I contacted my cc company and I have plenty of credit. I called Apple what a waste of time that was. I received an email from Bramkma who claimed to be very concerned about my problem, but did not provide any fixes and asked that I fill out the customer service survey when I receive it. As of Wednesday I have not received any help with his problem and Apple better hope I don't get a customer service survey. -
Oct 16, 2010 3:35 AM in response to Catfish Soupby desdesdes,Never a fan of Apple, which always seems to lock things up as if to treat users like criminals, this problem is sending my opinion of Apple plummeting even lower. I bought a new iPod Touch, and before I know it I can't update apps, buy anything - all I get is endless requests to update my billing info, specifically my credit card info. The hitch seems to be that it doesn't like my security code. No help, nobody to contact, no friendly message providing a route to a solution, just endlessly repeated requests for the security code. Couldn't Apple monitor this forum and make sure we find solutions? I even tried switching to another of my credit cards, and got the same problem. I'm pretty much feeling that my iPod has died and become a piece of junk. Apple *****. I wish I could have bought a Microsoft equivalent, where at least I know I'd find a million people who'd found a solution. Guess how many more Apple devices I'm going to buy in the future? -
Oct 16, 2010 3:45 AM in response to coolstuffoct0292by desdesdes,Nope, this didn't work for me. Apple stinks!
"I have found kind of a half fix. You still wont be able to buy apps that arent free, but you can get free ones and you will be able to update them and such.... Simply go to the itunes store on your computer, go to your account, and under credit card click none. Then just save and exit. It should no longer ask you to verify your card information when trying to buy free apps or update current apps." -
Oct 16, 2010 5:28 AM in response to bmintzer7by shayna1900,Out of the 5 people I've called 4 have have this problem (asking for the verification code and it not accepting my number...mine started 2 weeks ago) Everyone who has problems are VISA users the only one who can buy anything from ITunes has a Mastercard. Is this only a VISA problem or is this only a Canadian Visa problem. I will try and opt out of payments...iTunes should address this problem because it is loosing a lot of money if 4 out of 5 people that I have talked to cannot buy anything from them. -
Oct 16, 2010 6:19 AM in response to Catfish Soupby Gabe301,I have had a similar but different problem. Last night I got my dad to put his security code in (I don't have a credit card) so I could update some apps on my iPod Touch. This morning, I tried to download the game Trainyard and the billing info popped up again. Could this be a problem with 4.1?
Please reply! -
Oct 16, 2010 9:38 AM in response to Catfish Soupby Dkress,Same problem. I was able to purchase music and apps but I recently bought a new laptop and now when I log into the iTunes store on my iPhone4 or my laptop it asks for a security code. I tried the 3 digit number on the back of my MasterCard and I tried to use my 4 digit pin number but neither worked. I hope this issue is solved soon because without the ability to use iTunes I might as well have bought a blackberry -
Oct 18, 2010 10:07 PM in response to shayna1900by Embee1,Same problem, also in Canada, but I'm using a Mastercard. I have tried several prepaid Mastercards, in fact. One of them has a balance of 30$ on it - but still the nonsense about the security code.
Also tried switching payment info to 'none', saving it, logging out and logging in again - the problem remains.
Tried itunes on both the computer (xp) and on ipod touch - same problem on both systems.
Interestingly, updates to previously bought apps will download. I also downloaded a free app (NFB!) and that worked just fine.
So...free things we can get; paid things we cannot.
Apple: this is a strange new universe!
