iphone won't ring if i receive a call while listening to music

hi!
i just got an iphone v1 and everything is working just fine.
but when i'm listening to music, calls don't work any more. i know it should stop the music and make me hear the ring but it doesn't. it works with the sms and mails but not with calls. is there something and i can do ?
also, the volume buttons of my headset works fine with an ipod touch but it doesn't work with my iphone! the button to play or stop music etc works fine but the volume one, no.... is this because it's a first generation iphone ?

I still use the 1st gen phone. It should pause and ring the phone.
How are you listening to music? From the iPod app right. Not from something like Pandora.

If you are using some other app that is streaming the music, then that means you are using your data (Edge). Edge cannot use cell and data at same time. So if you are streaming, you are blocking any calls that may try to come in.

Or it could just be a coincidence you were listening to music but if your phone checks email and is busy processing while a call comes in, again you are using Edge which cannot do data and voice at same time thus it would of blocked the call.

Does this always happen or did it just happen once? If once, could just be the mail check as I mentioned.

The 3G network is what allows you to do data and voice together.

hi! thanks a lot for your quick answer!
i only use the ipod app. and i had a friend try to call me several times while i was not using anything on the iphone, so it cannot be the mail thing you're suggesting...
i just tried to restart it and now it does stop the music and makes me hear the call ring but it doesn't only ring IN the headset. people around me can hear it too whereas they couldn't here the music playing before.
i don't know if i'm really clear, i can't speak english very well, sorry...
i can't tell you if it always happen or not because i was using this function for the very first time today 🙂
