There is no timeline in iMovie 09. You need to use iMovie HD to get that feature, or move up to FCE or FCS.

iMovie '09 handles audio quite differently than iMovie HD 6, but still very effectively - even without a true timeline.

Check the tutorials that I've linked to in my posts to your other recent topics. I would like to help out with a nice summary, but it's just impractical to attempt to describe the audio features here (in a concise manner). The tutorials are your friend - please use them. 🙂
